Jun 19, 2013 6:11am | Fact Magazine As reported earlier this month, head of the Unknown to the Unknown label DJ Haus releases a new mixtape, Thug Houz Anthems Vol. 1 this week. Beginning life as a YouTube channel, Unknown To The Unknown became a powerful force for good throughout the last year, churning out 20+ releases of twisted garage and oddball bass music from the likes of DJ Narrows, DJ Q, Sinden and Sinden; we correspondingly named it one of our ten favourite labels of 2012. Their lo-res hijinks have continued into 2013: NY troublemakers Jubliee and Star Eyes released fresh material at the start of the year, the Classified label sampler dropped in February, and they recently found a home for Lake Haze

Jun 19, 2013 5:04am | Fact Magazine For FACT TV’s latest episode of Record Shopping, we met Carl Craig during a trip to Phonica. One of Detroit’s all-time greats, Craig has been making history since the early 1990s, both under his real name and with aliases like 69. With a new triple-disc mix CD due for Ministry of Sound’s Masterpiece series, we spoke to Carl about whether we’ll ever see DJs quite like Derrick May and Ron Hardy again, the first record shops he used to visit, the importance of tuning forks and more.
Stream oOoOO
Jun 19, 2013 4:47am | Fact Magazine The Bay Area producer’s debut full-length has finally arrived. Without Your Love presents a murky, nocturnal world of decaying synths and deep echoes, but for all its gothic atmosphere the songs are underpinned by a pop feeling hinted at in Chris Dexter’s own vocals. The album follows a pair of EPs on Tri Angle and will be released on oOoOO’s own label, Nihjgt Feelings. The album is out on 24 June but you can stream it in full now over on Pitchfork. Drowned in Oxford: Past, Present & Future...
Jun 19, 2013 3:58am | Drowned In Sound Continuing our regular series of local scene reports, Seb Reynolds talks us through the vibrant and varied music scene that Oxford has to offer... The Oxford music scene has long been one of the jewels in the UK music crown, punching far above its weight in terms of geographical size, not least for the nurturing and development of Radiohead in their early days. Radiohead - a band who have gone on to be one of the biggest guitar bands of all time, a band who have single-handedly rewritten the rule book; that a globally massive rock band can explore and incorporate avant-garde jazz, contemporary classical and IDM electronica into an album as brilliantly original as Kid A and score a number one album in the US with no singles or radio promotion is alone testament to their sheer force of creative will. Emerging around the same time were genre defining, Creation records signed shoegaze legends Ride, tragically nearly-massive indie pop almost-stars The Candyskins, and one of the most consistently excellent Britpop bands of the day, Supergrass. This particular period of Oxford Music is well documented and explored in great detail in local film maker Jon Spira |
