Full credits for Kanye West
Jun 19, 2013 10:24am | Fact Magazine

Yeezus’ complicated birth detailed in full.

The complete credits for Kanye West’s already wildly acclaimed new album have now been released. Each track is credited to numerous writers, producers and co-producers, revealing how the album was pieced together by dozens of contributors before being stripped back under the careful ear of Rick Rubin.

As Pitchfork report, musician and former fiance of M.I.A. Ben Bronfman is credited on ‘New Slaves’, while Rhymefest, who collaborated with Kanye on ‘Jesus Walks’, worked on several tracks.

The rumoured Marilyn Manson sample on ‘Black Skinhead’ is absent, while the version of ‘Strange Fruit’ sampled on ‘Blood On The Leaves’ is by Nina Simone, not Billie Holiday, as many had thought.

Techno producer Gesaffelstein and electro boss Brodinski co-produced ‘Send It Up’ and ‘Black Skinhead’, the latter of which features production from Lupe Fiasco too. UNO NYC’s Arca had a hand in four tracks, while he and Hudson Mohawke are credited as ‘production consultants’ for the whole album.

Yeezus Credits Revealed
Jun 19, 2013 10:19am | StereoGum

When Kanye West’s ferocious new album Yeezus leaked to the internet yesterday, it wasn’t clear which of Kanye’s army of collaborators helped out on which songs, or who many of those collaborators even were. We’d read stories of Paris apartment recording sessions with Daft Punk, or of Rick Rubin helping Kanye strip his tracks down to the bone. But now we have a better idea of just how many talented people were involved in making this clanging, sputtering monsterpiece. Kanye’s posted the long list of album credits on his website, and they include, at various points, Daft Punk, Frank Ocean, Justin Vernon, Chief Keef, Kid Cudi, Lupe Fiasco, Hudson Mohawke, Arca, King Louie, Travi$ Scott, Assassin, No-ID, 88-Keys, and Kanye’s recent right-hand man, the Guitar Center-looking Texas rap production legend Mike Dean. (He played the guitar solo on “Hold My Liquor”!) Also: God. Meanwhile, Kanye and Rubin both get executive producer credits. Check out the full list of credits below.

Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin
Jun 19, 2013 10:10am | StereoGum

For those who maybe don’t remember, Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin were one of a handful of mid-aughts bands whose rise coincided with that of indie rock blog culture. They were a band that played an event we called Bloggapalooza back during simpler times when we thought that was a cool thing to call an event. Bygones! Aside from being of the “blogrock” generation, SSLBY were always catchy as hell; if you’ve heard “Pangea” but once, you may find yourself humming it to this day, as the world’s most melodic song viewing love as continental drift. (“Pangeaaaa we used to be together, why’d we have to drift apart.”) And recently a funny thing happened, let’s call it the apotheosis of being named after a historical figure: Someone Still Loves You got a call from the Boris Yeltsin Foundation itself, to fly out to Russia, shake some hands, take home seven expensive bottles of vodka, and perform at both an elementary school and at Old Nu Rock (Russia’s largest winter festival) after our government certified their status as US cultural ambassadors for a day. They made a documentary about the experience, because that was a smart thing to do, and came back newly inspired to make music. The result is the album Fly By Wire, out this fall. Check out its first track “Nightwater Girlfriend” below, along with the trailer for their doc Discussions With Russians:

Oneohtrix Point Never signs to Warp, releasing new LP, playing shows (1 w/ Julianna Barwick who also has a new LP)
Jun 19, 2013 10:10am | Brooklyn Vegan

by Andrew Sacher

Oneohtrix Point Never in Austin in April (more by Tim Griffin)

Julianna Barwick at the Guggenheim in 2012 (more by Amanda Hatfield)

Brooklyn ambient artist Oneohtrix Point Never (aka Daniel Lopatin) has been making some of the most well-regarded music of that kind for a few years now, and he's now inked a deal with influential electronic label Warp Records. OPN will release his first album for the label, R Plus Seven, on September 30. No music has been revealed from the album yet, but you can check out the artwork and tracklist below.

Oneohtrix Point Never will be playing some shows around the time of the new album's release, including one in his hometown on September 17 at Our Lady of Lebanon Maronite Cathedral (113 Remsen St).

That show is with another Brooklyn ambient musician, Julianna Barwick, who creates her soundscapes primarily with her voice, versus OPN's synthesizer work. She's also got a new album, Nepenthe, due out on August 20 via Dead Oceans. The album was recorded in Iceland with Alex Somers (aka one half of the duo Riceboy Sleeps with Jonsi from Sigur Ros, who OPN just toured with). So far she's revealed two multi-layered singles from the album, "Forever" and "One Half." You can check out both of those below.

All dates are listed, along with all song streams and album info, below...

Country singer Slim Whitman has passed away at age 90
Jun 19, 2013 10:08am | Fact Magazine

Famed singer songwriter Slim Whitman passed away in Florida this morning.

Widely known for his country-flecked covers of pop standards and his tendency to yodel, for better or for worse Whitman helped popularize the very American country and western sound in Europe. His popularity blossomed in the UK, and he ended up being far more popular in Blighty than he ever was in his own country – sort of like a reversed version of grunge also-rans Bush.

News has circulated today that the aging performer has passed away at 90 years old. His son-in-law Roy Beagle informed the Mercury News that Whitman died of heart failure.

Whitman’s contribution to music might be laughed off fairly easily, but it shouldn’t be – he is still credited with encouraging a young Elvis Presley on his path, and without his contribution to the British music scene the direction of rock music could have looked very different.

Still Corners, Imperial Topaz @ Mercury Lounge
Dream pop duo Still Corners just wrapped up two sold-out NYC shows with CHVRCHES on their ongoing tour, and now they're sticking around for a headlining show at Mercury Lounge tonight. If you haven't heard their sultry second album, Strange Pleasures, you can correct that right now via Rdio or Spotify. Support at tonight's show comes from excellent like-minded local duo Imperial Topaz. Tickets are still available.

Austra @ Other Music
Austra put out their terrific sophomore album, Olympia, this week, and before their tour hits NYC tomorrow for a sold-out MHOW show with Mozart's Sister, they'll be stopping by downtown Manhattan record store Other Music for a free in-store at 8 PM. You can listen to their new album on Spotify.

Cold Cave, Boyd Rice @ Saint Vitus
A late night rendez-vous with Cold Cave sounds pretty appropriate, especially in the dark, church-themed recesses of Saint Vitus in Brooklyn. There, Wesley Eisold will present new material from his cavalcade of new 7"s released this year, and be joined by the e...

Pond
Jun 19, 2013 9:49am | StereoGum

The bassist Nick Allbrook may have recently left Tame Impala, but he still leads the similarly inclined Australian psych-rock band Pond, and they’re still about to release their fifth album Hobo Rocket. We’ve posted that album’s first single “Giant Tortoise,” as well as its video, and now they’ve followed that one up with a triumphant six-minute FM-radio blast called “Xanman,” a song that would’ve been right at home on the Dazed & Confused soundtrack. Listen to it below.

stream a track from the new Mammoth Grinder LP
Jun 19, 2013 9:45am | Brooklyn Vegan

Chris of Mammoth Grinder at Chaos in Tejas, June 2013 (more by Fred Pessaro)

Mammoth Grinder are back with a vengeance on Underworlds, due via 20 Buck Spin on July 23. The new LP is the brainchild of the busiest man in Austin, Chris Ulsh, packed with 29-minutes of crossover/d-beat/old school death metal vitriol. Its a lean yet brutal effort, and rewarding through multiple listens. Recommended.

Check out the new track "Paragon Pusher" from the LP, and the the Joe Petagno art (Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, too many Motorhead covers to count) over at Invisible Oranges.

If you missed it, you can also check out recent streams from some of Ulsh's other undertakings, including Power Trip and Hatred Surge at IO as well.

Song : Porcelain Raft :
Jun 19, 2013 9:39am | My Old Kentucky Blog

Mauro Remiddi, better known under the moniker Porcelain Raft, will be returning with a new LP, Permanent Signal, on August 20th via Secretly Canadian. This record is more organic than his excellent debut Strange Weekend with more use of tradition instrumentation and less electronic. According to Remiddi, he “wanted to record in the studio just to capture the guitars and drums properly, and to have some real input from musicians I respected and loved to hang with.” Some of the musicians appearing on the record are Yuck

Oneohtrix Point Never’s Daniel Lopatin will follow up 2011′s groundbreaking Replica with his Warp Records debut, R Plus Seven. Oneohtrix Point Never signs to Warp Records, announces new album R Plus Seven
Jun 19, 2013 9:33am | Fact Magazine

Never say never.

Daniel Lopatin‘s influential strain of faded electronic music has served as a cornerstone in the last few years, so it’s hardly surprising that the prolific American has made the move to Warp Records, a label that puts him alongside Autechre, Aphex Twin and

Hear Nelly
Jun 19, 2013 9:28am | Fact Magazine

The Southern rapper gears up for the release of his seventh studio album, M.O.

Produced by Pharrell, Nelly’s ‘Get Like Me’ is a retro nod to the stripped back sound of ‘Drop It Like It’s Hot’-era Neptunes (which was nearly 10 years ago, remember). The Daft Punk collaborator lends his vocals to the nursery rhyme hook, while pop-rap superstar Nicki Minaj provides her superior guest verse services.

Set for release later this year, M.O. will feature Midas-touch producer Future alongside star guests Nelly Furtado, T.I., Trey Songz and Wiz Khalifa.

Last year Nelly was arrested and subsequently released when a police raid on his tour bus discovered a loaded gun, a full duffel bag full of marijuana and 64 ounces of heroin.
