Two years after the release of Within and Without, Washed Out will release his new album Paracosm on August 13th, once again forcing himself to endure more stupid questions from music journalists about chillwave. Below is the album trailer, a sequence of kaleidoscopic nature shots scored by a bit of new music that sounds like how we were hoping the new Avalanches record would.

UK resident James Mathé will soon be pulling double duty, both as a touring member of Jose Gonzalez's band Junip (who are starting a North American trek next week) and as an opener too, with his own project, Barbarossa. Having just signed to Memphis Industries, Mathé will release his second album as Barbarossa, Bloodlines, on August 5.

Where his first album, Chemical Campfires, was lovely acoustic folk, Mathé has reinvented Barbarossa for the new album which is much more electronic. "I loved the acoustic scene, but knew it was not all I was about, so I dug out all my old casiotone keyboards, drum machines and analogue synths and just started writing." If you like the more soulful, reflective side of Hot Chip, you should definitely check him out. You can watch the video for the album's first single, "The Load," below.

In celebration of the Junip tour -- which hits NYC on June 13 for a sold-out show at Highline Ballroom with Quadron -- Barbarossa has covered Junip's "Line of Fire" which definitely takes the song in a more low-key direction, but no less lovely. We've got the premiere of that and you can stream it below.

Up the horns, fans of The New Pornographers and Neko Case’s country power pop. The woman whose voice cannot be caged took on the Iron Maiden classic “Number of the Beast” during a performance at the Fitzgerald Theatre in St. Paul, MN for Minnesota Public Radio. As Exclaim reports, Case was joined by singer Kelly Hogan, and backed by Minneapolis musician John Munson and the Witnesses for the cover. Click here and skip ahead to 55:00 to hear Case give Bruce Dickinson a serious run for his money.

Skip back to the beginning of the performance to hear comedy sets from Rob Delany, and performances of Case’s “Middle Cyclone” and “Nothing to Remember”, as well as Hogan’s “Golden” and “I Like To Keep Myself In Pain”.

Earl Sweatshirt has slowly been working himself up to the release of his much-anticipated debut album, Doris. We’ve already heard the cutting first single “Whoa”, and watched him debut several tracks live in concert. Now, The FADER points us to the studio version of his hazy collaboration with Mac Miller, “Guild”, which you can stream below.

Barcelona’s Primavera Sound will will stream a number of this weekend

The Halifax-bred producer Ryan Hemsworth has built his name on a form of twinkling, emotive cloud-rap music, though his take on the style is a lot smoother and more grounded than that of, say, Clams Casino. We’ve lately posted Hemsworth tracks like “Perfectly,” “Proto,” and “Colour & Movement,” as well as his remixes for Cat Power, Lana Del Rey, and Rhye. And now Hemsworth has released a free seven-track online EP called Still Awake. Check it out below.

NPR films Blake’s recent Washington, DC concert.

On May 12, the UK troubadour performed a 90-minute concert at DC’s famed 9:30 Club. The entire show was recorded (in HD) by NPR, and you can watch it below. Blake treats the crowd to songs from his self-titled debut, this year’s Overgrown, and older favorites like ‘CMYK’.

You know how when lots of good things are happening to you all at once, you start to feel like it’s only a matter of time before you get hit by a train or something? That’s kind of how I feel right now. Not helping my sense of impending doom is the too-good-to-be-true news that Ernest Greene, aka Washed Out, is releasing a new album, Paracosm out August 13 via Sub Pop.

If the trailer is any indication of what the album’s going to be like, we’re looking at something straight-up paradisiacal. Chillwave without the chill, if you will. Though excellent and hypnotizing, most of 2011′s Within And Without made me feel like I was stuck in a perpetual shower of mist, due in part to the fact that the video for A Dedication plays like a documentary about doing laundry during a thunderstorm. Paracosm promises to be more expansive and experimental than Greene’s previous work, because he’s apparently using 50 different instruments on this album. That’s a lot, right? Someone ask Sufjan Stevens if that’s a lot. Also maybe ask Sufjan if I should start praying about this whole getting hit by a train thing. Take a look at the trailer for Paracosm, below.

Fast-rising producer Ryan Hemsworth keeps the peal to the medal this afternoon with the release of Still Awake. The seven-track EP contains all new productions from the Canadian native, including the whimsical track “Perfectly”. Stream/download below.

Hemsworth will be on the road all summer, with appearances scheduled at Forecastle Festival, Pitchfork Music Festival, and Hopscotch Music Festival, among many other festivals.

When Earl Sweatshirt invited weed-rap superstar Mac Miller to the stage at Low End Theory to perform a new song a few months ago, the combination seemed weird as fuck. But Miller gets better and more interesting all the time, and a recent FADER cover story revealed that he and Earl are actually really good friends. And today, we get to hear the studio version of “Guild,” the song they performed together. After the staggering “Chum” and the goofy Odd Future group effort “Whoa,” it’s the third complete song we’ve heard from Earl’s rabidly anticipated forthcoming album Doris, which still has no release date.

“Guild” is a clinic in blunted rappity-rap, with Earl and Mac, their voices distorted and pitched down, going in over a twinkling and low-key beat. And I wouldn’t have guessed this would ever happen, but Mac kind of beats Earl on this song? He’s at Myrtle Beach in a purple fleece in hotel lobbies playing Für Elise? He’s at a prop shot in Montauk throwing tomahawks at civilians? I mean, he does really well. Listen to the track at FADER.
