by Bill Pearis

Costa Mesa, CA trio Tomorrows Tulips make lo-fi indiepop with a flower power bent, as can be heard on their latest effort, Experimental Jelly, which is out on cassette via Burger Records. (Fans of Beat Happening, TV Personalities, The Vaselines...this is for you.) You can stream a track from it below, along with the entirety of the their debut.

Hot Natured (playing Terminal 5) remixed by Benoit & Sergio (playing Cameo)
May 23, 2013 2:18pm | Brooklyn Vegan

Hot Natured is something of a house music supergroup, including members Jamie Jones, Lee Foss, Luca C, and Ali Love, who have all made marks on the dance music scene on their own. The group have a few singles out, including this year's "Reverse Skydiving" which features lead vocals from Anabel Englund, and will possibly appear on their debut LP which is due out this summer. You can watch the video for that track below, along with a remix of it by Benoit & Sergio.

As mentioned, Benoit & Sergio will be in NYC this weekend for a show at Cameo on Saturday (5/25) with Dave Harrington (of Nicolas Jaar's band) and Justin Strauss. Tickets for that show are still available. They've got a few other dates this weekend, all of which are listed below.

Hot Natured have received remix treatment from other producers as well, including long-running Detroit producer MK, who remixed their track, "Forward Motion." You can stream that remix below. MK will be in NYC this summer for Warm Up at MoMA PS1.

Meanwhile, Hot Natured will be making their US debut on July 6 at Terminal 5 for a HARD NYC event. All four members will open the night with DJ sets (Luca C and Ali Love will do theirs together as the duo Infinity Ink), and then Hot Natured will headline the show with a live set. Tickets for that are on sale now. Their only other US date is in Chicago.

Boards Of Canada
May 23, 2013 2:17pm | StereoGum

After all the feints and subterfuge and precisely-engineered hype, Tomorrow’s Harvest, the first album that Scottish downtempo heroes Boards Of Canada have made in eight years, is imminent. And now, we finally get to hear a studio track from it. “Reach For The Dead” is an ominous, humming instrumental drone-piece with just a few hints of the sad nostalgia that the group used to radiate. Until the glitchy drums kick in two-thirds of the way through, it sounds like something that would be playing on the score of a great ’80s sci-fi movie when the heroes discover something wondrous and terrifying. Listen to it below.

As mentioned, after tons of ridiculous hints/hype/advertisements, Boards of Canada announced that they'd be putting out their first album since 2005, Tomorrow's Harvest, on June 11 via Warp. And now, after projecting a mysterious video in Japan earlier this week, the duo have revealed their first actual song from the album, "Reach For The Dead."

Mr. Muthafuckin
May 23, 2013 2:09pm | StereoGum

Mr. Muthafuckin’ eXquire has been teasing his upcoming mixtape Kismet for a bit now. And while we’ve heard songs like “Noble Drew Ali” and seen his video “Nightfall At The Thames,” there was still no concrete information about if or when the full collection would actually come out. Finally, the project has an official release date and it’s 6/4. The tape includes collaborations with Danny Brown, Flatbush Zombies, Raider Klan member Key-Nyata, and a head-scratching production credit for Curtis Mayfield. It also features this shortie, “Fat Fool,” produced by The Alchemist. No hook, no put-on flair, just eX lyrically bench-pressing 300 and an accompanying video that has him simply being chauffeured through Austin in a rickshaw. Kismet also includes a track called “Chains,” which I have yet to hear, but from what I have been told about the hook, it sounds like proto-”New Slaves,” at least content-wise. Watch the “Fat Fool” video and check out the full Kismet tracklist below.

the new issues of Rolling Stone...

Red Bull Music Academy, who hosts DFA's 12th Anniversary party this weekend, hosted Giorgio Moroder's 1st-ever live DJ set at Output in Brooklyn the other night. If you missed it (the live event or the stream we posted yesterday), you can listen to the whole thing.

When you're done with that, listen to his collaboration with Daft Punk "Giorgio by Moroder", and then check out the song that didn't make the new Daft Punk album in the USA, but is out in Japan and of course on the internet.

And speaking of Daft Punk collaborators, an encore presentation of "Andrew the Pizza Guy" below...

There’s a moment before Eminem’s earth-shattering cypher at 2011′s B.E.T. Awards where he skewers rappers with rhyme-stuffed lines that confuse free association with gibberish. Both Earl Sweatshirt and Mac Miller utilize this kind of synapse jumping flow, and their careers wouldn’t exist without the brutal brilliance of Marshall Mathers. The stoned

Morrissey Issues Fatwa Against Foie Gras...
May 23, 2013 1:49pm | The Daily Swarm

It’s no surprise that Morrissey, being a militant vegetarian, isn’t a fan of foie gras, the French delicacy made by force feeding geese until their livers bloat. In a recent letter posted on True to You, an online Morrissey fanzine that has become his semi-official mouthpiece, Moz posted a letter in which he both congratulated Prince Charles for banning foie gras from official functions, and told fans to put pressure on London’s last remaining foie gras retailer to remove the product from their shelves. He also made fun of Kate Middleton, who is apparently a foie gras fan. Via Pitchfork:

Congratulations to Prince Charles for banning foie gras from all his functions.
However, unsurprisingly, this most savage and cruel commodity continues to be the favorite “dish” of smiling mother-to-be Kate Muddleton (from whom, in fact, we expect no less.)

Foie gras production is illegal in the UK, yet the ever-so-correct Fortnum and Mason have found suppliers in France who will keep their shelves stocked – possibly with the hope that smiling Kate will wobble in and place an order for her unborn child.

Since Fortnum and Mason are now the only department store in London who are associated with the pitiless atrocity of foie gras, would you please write to them/contact them and exert pressure on them to stop selling such a savage beyond belief “product&#822...

Disclosure
May 23, 2013 1:43pm | StereoGum

Settle, the debut album from the brotherly British garage-revivalist duo Disclosure, is still a couple of weeks away, but I’m going to tell you right now that it’s one of the best albums of the year. Thanks to the excellent singles “White Noise” and “You & Me,” you’ve probably already heard one side of their sound: The sweetly melodic, R&B-derived slickness that they can conjure so well. But “When A Fire Starts To Burn,” which more or less works as the album’s opener, shows another side: The absolutely vicious riff-happy dance side. Even when they’re making ferocious instrumental tracks, though, Disclosure sound more euphoric and approachable than you’d believe. “When A Fire Starts To Burn” is an absolute jam, and you can hear it below.
