Queens Of The Stone Age
May 17, 2013 11:56am | StereoGum Hey, another one of these! The fifth bloodily animated video for a song from the new Queens Of The Stone Age album …Like Clockwork is for the epic, churning, triumphant first single “My God Is The Sun.” In the clip, the dead stars of the videos for “I Appear Missing,” “Kalopsia,” “Keep Your Eyes Peeled,” and “If I Had A Tail” all reawaken as a gigantic winged sun rises in the sky. It all plays out like something a shop-class stoner might dream if he fell asleep watching Heavy Metal. Check it out below. Read More...

Mood Rings
May 17, 2013 11:41am | StereoGum Mood Rings are a genre-melding indie pop group from Atlanta. They’re gearing up to make their Mexican Summer debut in June and with it comes “Hollow Dye (Defected Crystal).” The song rattles from dreamy post-punk before making a measured turn into its hazy conclusion. It has levels. Check it out below. Read More...

Michael Musto, Robert Sietsema, Michael Feingold and more let go
from 'Village Voice'
May 17, 2013 11:41am | Brooklyn Vegan
The planned layoffs at the Village Voice, which caused its brand-new editor-in-chief and deputy to quit in protest, went down this morning regardless, Gawker reports, and included legendary gossip columnist Michael Musto and veteran theater critic Michael Feingold, both of whom had already filed forthcoming pieces for the paper. Food critic Robert Sietsema was also let go. "So many people have come out to offer their love (and opportunities)," Musto told Hamilton Nolan. "My brand will be feistier than ever." We don't doubt it. The Voice, on the other hand ... - [Intelligencer]Michael Musto had been with the iconic NYC alt-weekly since 1984. Also leaving, The Voice from it's longtime Cooper Sq. offices. Peter Hook to perform New Order
May 17, 2013 11:30am | Cosequence Of Sound Estranged New Order co-founder and bassist Peter Hook will return stateside this fall for another dip into the nostalgia well. This time around, he’s graduating from Joy Division and, instead, performing full albums by New Order: their 1981 debut, Movement, and its followup, 1983′s Power, Corruption & Lies. The tour kicks off on September 10th at Boston’s Paradise Rock Club and wraps later that month at Colorado’s Gothic Theatre. However, those who prefer their subscription to Ian Curtis should head to Chicago’s Riot Fest, where Hook will perform an all Joy Division set — he just couldn’t resist. Consult the full itinerary below. In related news, Justin Gerber and myself recently dusted off Power, Corruption & Lies for its 30th anniversary. Check that out here. Le1f
May 17, 2013 11:21am | StereoGum When Le1f released Fly Zone this year, “Spa Day” was one of the tracks I immediately latched on to. One of the places where Le1f excels is picking beats that sound like they’re the kind of rap tracks we’ll be listening to when we have flying cars. Another is his way of throwing shade in the most nuanced ways. A lot of folks missed it on “Wut” because of how raspy the vocals are, but verse two on that song is littered with the most bravado-laden lyrics of 2012. “Spa Day” is equally aggressive, despite the song’s title. His mean mug throughout the video, while he’s bouncing from bathtub to hot tub to shower, just emphasizes that it’s not a fluffy track about relaxing, it’s shade on top of shade on top of shade. The phrase “that’s cute” never hurt so badly. You can spot a chunk of his Greedhead labelmates in the clip, which is below. Read More...
