cigarettes on cigarettes, my mama think I stank

As mentioned, Chance the Rapper, whose solid Acid Rap mixtape is out now and free, will be coming to NYC during the Northside Festival. Since we last spoke, it's been announced that his show will happen on June 15 at Europa. Tickets for that show are on sale now, and you can also try to get in with your Northside badge. The rest of the lineup is TBA.

As mentioned, you can also see Chance in the NYC-area this July opening for Mac Miller if you're into that sort of thing.

Mac is also featured on "Guild," the new track from another of his tourmates, Earl Sweatshirt, which you can stream below (via Fader). The track is set to appear on Earl's upcoming album, Doris, which still has no release date.

Guy Who is Our New Hero Impersonates Psy at Cannes, Everyone Buys It...
May 23, 2013 2:39pm | The Daily Swarm

A guy who doesn’t even look that much like Psy put on dark glasses and a suit and conned his way into Cannes, pretending to be the South Korean pop star. Via Spin:

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the fake PSY was seen all over the French town, and he managed to fool not only partygoers who posed for pictures with him, but also the Getty Images celebrity division FilmMagic. Actress Naomi Harris also tweeted a photo of herself with not-PSY.

When the real Psy heard about the impostor, he responded in the exact sort of chill bro way you’d expect.

The real PSY eventually caught wind, tweeting from Singapore, “Seems like there’s another ME at cannes … say Hi to him.”

The Roots
May 23, 2013 2:27pm | Cosequence Of Sound

On May 31st, the city of Philadelphia will honor native sons and future Tonight Show house band The Roots by unveiling this colorful mural on the side of the World Communications Charter School. It was designed by Tatyana Fazlalizadeh and Amber Art and Design as part of the City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program.

Begun in the fall of 2012, the mural is part of a larger project that included a youth arts education program called “Roots 101″, citywide paint days, and a special lecture series. Below, watch ?uestlove and Black Thought discuss the project and its significance.

The dedication ceremony and unveiling, which ?uest and crew will attend, is scheduled for 11:30 AM on Friday, May 31st (just one day before the annual Roots Picnic). Located at 512 S. Broad Street, attendees are instructed to use the South Street entrance (and now you know).

7 Seconds Announce First Album in 8 Years, Still Walking, Rocking Together...
May 23, 2013 2:25pm | The Daily Swarm

Eighties hardcore heroes 7 Seconds have signed to Rise Records, and are working on their first LP since 2005’s Take it Back, Take it On, Take it Over!. Via Exclaim:

Details are still developing behind the as-yet untitled LP, but the hardcore band will head into a Sacramento studio this summer to lay down a number of tracks. The record will feature the long-standing line-up of vocalist Kevin Seconds, bassist Steve Youth, drummer Troy Mowat and guitarist Bob Adams.

“We have about 20 new songs that we’ll record the best 13 songs from. This new record will be all about the energy and drive we still very much possess as a hardcore band,” Seconds said in a statement. “It’s been nine long years since we’ve recorded a new album so there’s a great deal of urgency in them, with just the right mixture of both fast and mid-tempo tunes for people to sink their teeth into.”

The band is also planning to rerelease deluxe versions of several albums from their early-to-mid ’80s heyday.

Is it just us, or does the phrase “Youth Crew” get progressively more ironic.

Listen: Earl Sweatshirt
May 23, 2013 2:23pm | CMJ

Everyone’s favorite 19-year-old, Earl Sweatshirt, just released a new track, Guild, that’s slated to be on his upcoming full-length, Doris. Earl is joined by goofy frat-rapper Mac Miller, who’s clearly benefitting from Earl’s lead. The two volley verses among sludgy beats about sex (duh), Schindler’s List, moms, and Twitter—which, by the way, seems to be the new website to name-drop if you’re a young hip hop artist (*cough, cough* Chance the Rapper).

The track isn’t that much of a surprise, seeing as the duo already performed the song live back in March, but this time you can hear it above the shrieks and growls of enthusiastic fans. Check out Guild below via Fader, and lament the fact that you’re not a part of this beautifully blossoming friendship.

Hot Natured (playing Terminal 5) remixed by Benoit & Sergio (playing Cameo)
May 23, 2013 2:18pm | Brooklyn Vegan

Hot Natured is something of a house music supergroup, including members Jamie Jones, Lee Foss, Luca C, and Ali Love, who have all made marks on the dance music scene on their own. The group have a few singles out, including this year's "Reverse Skydiving" which features lead vocals from Anabel Englund, and will possibly appear on their debut LP which is due out this summer. You can watch the video for that track below, along with a remix of it by Benoit & Sergio.

As mentioned, Benoit & Sergio will be in NYC this weekend for a show at Cameo on Saturday (5/25) with Dave Harrington (of Nicolas Jaar's band) and Justin Strauss. Tickets for that show are still available. They've got a few other dates this weekend, all of which are listed below.

Hot Natured have received remix treatment from other producers as well, including long-running Detroit producer MK, who remixed their track, "Forward Motion." You can stream that remix below. MK will be in NYC this summer for Warm Up at MoMA PS1.

Meanwhile, Hot Natured will be making their US debut on July 6 at Terminal 5 for a HARD NYC event. All four members will open the night with DJ sets (Luca C and Ali Love will do theirs together as the duo Infinity Ink), and then Hot Natured will headline the show with a live set. Tickets for that are on sale now. Their only other US date is in Chicago.

Boards Of Canada
May 23, 2013 2:17pm | StereoGum

After all the feints and subterfuge and precisely-engineered hype, Tomorrow’s Harvest, the first album that Scottish downtempo heroes Boards Of Canada have made in eight years, is imminent. And now, we finally get to hear a studio track from it. “Reach For The Dead” is an ominous, humming instrumental drone-piece with just a few hints of the sad nostalgia that the group used to radiate. Until the glitchy drums kick in two-thirds of the way through, it sounds like something that would be playing on the score of a great ’80s sci-fi movie when the heroes discover something wondrous and terrifying. Listen to it below.

Mr. Muthafuckin
May 23, 2013 2:09pm | StereoGum

Mr. Muthafuckin’ eXquire has been teasing his upcoming mixtape Kismet for a bit now. And while we’ve heard songs like “Noble Drew Ali” and seen his video “Nightfall At The Thames,” there was still no concrete information about if or when the full collection would actually come out. Finally, the project has an official release date and it’s 6/4. The tape includes collaborations with Danny Brown, Flatbush Zombies, Raider Klan member Key-Nyata, and a head-scratching production credit for Curtis Mayfield. It also features this shortie, “Fat Fool,” produced by The Alchemist. No hook, no put-on flair, just eX lyrically bench-pressing 300 and an accompanying video that has him simply being chauffeured through Austin in a rickshaw. Kismet also includes a track called “Chains,” which I have yet to hear, but from what I have been told about the hook, it sounds like proto-”New Slaves,” at least content-wise. Watch the “Fat Fool” video and check out the full Kismet tracklist below.
