Low Fat Getting High announce new EP & upcoming shows
May 22, 2013 3:22pm | Brooklyn Vegan by Andrew Sacher Low Fat Getting High at Cake Shop earlier this month
(more by Chris Gersbeck) Brooklyn punks Low Fat Getting High have been playing raucous local shows for some time now, and as mentioned, they're finally laying down that intensity for a new EP, which is called Bad Yoga, and has just been officially announced. The EP will be out on July 18 via Dead Broke/Money Fire Records. It kicks off with three tracks of menacing, breakneck-speed punk, and culminates in a fourth track of Bleach-style noise and sludge. The whole thing is just over ten minutes and it's a real ripper so keep an eye out for it. You can stream the opening track, "Better Better Worse," along with the artwork and tracklist below. Low Fat Getting High have a ton of upcoming shows as usual, including a previously discussed Gimme Tinnitus-presented show TONIGHT (5/22) at Big Snow with another solid local punk band, Big Ups, CYHSY-related Radical Dads (for whom the show is a record release party), and Miniboone. $7 at the door gets you into tonight's show. Doors are at 8 PM. All ages. Show flyer below. After that, they've got a bunch of other local dates, including a Converse Rubber Tracks show on June 12; Silent Barn on June 14 with another great local punk band, Sleepies, noise rockers Eula, indie rockers Shark?, sludgy psych rockers Psychic Blood and others; a...

Tried...
May 22, 2013 3:10pm | The Daily Swarm Way back in 2004, on “Go DJ,” Lil Wayne referred to Cash Money Records as “a lawless game.” Well, the labels disregard for the law just got a little more flagrant with the signing repeat offender Paris Hilton. We are not screwing with you. This is a real thing. Via Miss Info:

Watch Empire Of The Sun Play
May 22, 2013 2:09pm | StereoGum “Alive,” the new single from Aussie synthpoppers Empire Of The Sun is as much a grand and absurd spectacle. as it is a song; the group made good and sure of that with the video. They’re all over the festival circuit this summer, which means they’ll play the song live a fuckton of times. And one of the first of those times came earlier this week at the House Of Blues in Dallas. The performance was heavy on lights and dancers and costumes, and you can watch a pro video of it below. Backtrack: Woods At Rear House
May 22, 2013 1:53pm | StereoGum Jobs were passed down generationally between strangers. One guy
became an editor at a magazine, but used to be a music buyer at
Mondo Kim’s on St. Marks. My friend got the job and started a
shoegaze band with a tall guy named Brad that had a huge beard and
a couple large cats. Brad moved away and then two different guys
joined and the band got way darker. It felt like every musician in
New York was in Black Dice at some point. Dave Sitek of TV on the
Radio produced a record for Telepathe, a band that used to be a
different band. I got an internship at The FADER through a kid I
sort of knew that went to Columbia who had one before me. He really
liked Ryan Adams. I liked Ryan Adams less, which worried me for
some reason. Read More...
