Watch long-lost footage of The Smiths
May 24, 2013 2:56am | Fact Magazine

Every year or so, some arrant nonsense about an impending Smiths reunion briefly does the rounds. It’s easy to forget, then, that a Smiths reunion of sorts has actually already happened – albeit back in 1988.

Salford’s finest called it a day back in 1987 following Johnny Marr’s departure from the group. Morrissey swiftly began work on a solo career, working with Vini Reilly and Stephen Street on his first solo effort Viva Hate. A year to the day after their split, Morrissey’s manager contacted his former band members to invite them to join the singer at a forthcoming gig at Wolverhampton Civic Hall. Although Marr demurred, drummer Mike Joyce and bassist Andy Rourke took up the offer – a remarkable call, given that Joyce and Rourke were suing Morrissey at the time (something Joyce says “wasn’t mentioned.”)

As NME report, rare footage of the December 22, 1988 gig has now emerged online. The video shows the band rattling through a string of Smiths tracks which had never been played live before, plus material Joyce and Rourke had previously recorded with Morrissey, including ‘Last Of The Famous International Playboys’. Smiths tracks include ‘Stop Me If You Think You’ve Heard This One Before’ and ‘Sweet And Tender Hooligan’, with a clutch of Morrissey originals sprinkled into the 40-minute set too. As is to be ex...

Song : Beach Day :
May 23, 2013 6:49pm | My Old Kentucky Blog

Hollywood, FL’s Beach Day revealed another song from their upcoming debut, Trip Trap Attack, out June 18th via Kanine Records. “Stay” has heavy influence of 60s girl groups such as The Shangri-La’s, The Ventures, and The Ronettes with some surf rock mixed in. Think a more poppier Best Coast or Dum Dum Girls. Listen to the song below and the previously released “Boys” here.

Song : Airbird & Napolian :

“In The Zone” from Airbird & Napolian featuring Erika Spring is one our favorite jams, recently. YOu can bet it will be making several appearances over the upcoming Memorial Day weekend. Everything about the track screams warm weather and summer. On the other side of that single is the b-side “Special.” With this song, we get more of a chopped-up house track. “In the Zone” b/w “Special” is out now via Cascine. Listen below.

Getting a tattoo of your favorite band, their logo, or meaningful lyrics symbolizes your undying love for their music and your loyalty as a fan. But there are some music tattoos that are so awful, so cringeworthy, you wonder if the artist themselves would be willing to pay for its removal. So, on today’s Rock it Out! Blog, Sami (who is ink-free) wants to know what music tattoos are the worst you’ve ever seen. Leave your horror stories down below and feel free to post links to the tattoos you’ve found to be most foul.

Also on today’s episode, Sami recaps more music headlines, including a trippy new video from Portugal. The Man, a brand new song from Arctic Monkeys, the trailer for Metallica’s Imax movie, Through The Never, and the long-awaited single from Boards Of Canada.

Video : Molly Nilsson :
May 23, 2013 6:00pm | My Old Kentucky Blog

History from Stockholm’s Molly Nilsson was one of the more grossly unappreciated albums from last year. Her music paints in cold tones and her vocals are reminiscent of Nico or even a female Matt Berninger of The National. In fact, her sound as a whole has many of the same elements of The National. On June 21st, Nilsson will be releasing her fifth and latest album The Travels via Dark Skies Association/Night School. The first single from the LP is pleading “Dear Life.” The lyrics read like a diary entry of someone searching for something more. Listen to and watch the video directed by Chris Filippini and Nilsson below.

Download 'Still Awake,' the New EP by Ryan Hemsworth. Do it Now!
May 23, 2013 5:32pm | The Daily Swarm

Via Exclaim:

Last week, prolific Halifax beatmaker Ryan Hemsworth shared a new track and promised that it would be followed by a digital EP called Still Awake. Sure enough, the seven-song set has now hit the web.

We’re still digesting this one, but an initial listen reveals lush synth tones and almost entirely instrumental tracks that range from low-key, reflective soundscapes to slightly more buoyant beats and dance influences.

Schoolboy Q Winks at Rick Ross in Black Hippy 'U.O.E.N.O.' Remix...
May 23, 2013 5:21pm | The Daily Swarm

Via Spin:

The original buzz around Rocko’s “U.O.E.N.O.” was that it was going to be pushed to radio with new verses by Kendrick Lamar and Kanye West, a move supposed to up the song’s wattage while also quietly wiping away the date rap lyric that got Rick Ross dropped from Reebok. Alas, that never came to fruition, and Rocko has instead steadily dropped a handful of remixes over the course of the last few months. The latest comes from Lamar, who is joined by his Black Hippy crew instead of Kanye West.
