Boards Of Canada
May 23, 2013 5:16pm | CMJ

Ever-impressive and often-mysterious Scottish electronic music duo Boards Of Canada have just released a new track, Reach for the Dead off their upcoming album, Tomorrow’s Harvest, out June 11 via Warp. Accompanying the track is a muddled, 1960s-roadtrip-esque video, complete with zooming clouds, stretches of winding road, and some ramshackle-looking buildings that show hints of promise in the sunlight. The video debuted yesterday in Tokyo, splayed across the side of a building, much to the confusion of, well, everyone.

This is the band’s first new release in seven years, and it’s the kind of album teaser we should expect from BoC. The song starts softly with a drum beat and buzzing reverb, then builds to a pulse-quickening wall of sound. You can check out the tracklist for Tomorrow’s Harvest and watch the video for Reach for the Dead, below.

Tracklist for Tomorrow’s Harvest:
01. Gemini
02. Reach For The Dead
03. White Cyclosa
04. Jacquard Causeway
05. Telepath
06. Cold Earth
07. Transmisiones Ferox

12. Uritual
13. Nothing Is Real
14. Sundown
15. New Seeds
16. Come To Dust
17. Semena Mertvykh

Song : Haerts :
May 23, 2013 5:12pm | My Old Kentucky Blog

“Wings” from Brooklyn’s Haerts is easily one of the best tracks you will hear this year. All you have to do is listen to our Sirius XMU radio show each Tuesday and you will hear that song as a constant in our rotation. We, now, get another equally captivating song titled “All The Days.” Stevie Nick anyone? Expect an album from the group later this year, but in the meantime stream their latest below.

"State authorities this morning raided 29 bars and restaurants across New Jersey on suspicion that they have been re-filling empty bottles of their most expensive liquors with cheaper alcohol.

Dubbed "Operation Swill," the year-long investigation found the establishments fooled customers so they could charge higher prices and bolster their profits, according to a statement released by the state Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control." [NJ.COM]

Youngblood Hawke @ Avalon: May 22, 2013

Youngblood Hawke – Photo by Annie Lesser

Last night, indie-pop group Youngblood Hawke brought their catchy electro-jams to an amped-up Hollywood crowd at the Avalon. The enthusiastic five-piece kept their energy high even as the dry West Coast heat settled in on the venue, playing songs from their debut album, Wake Up. And with a little prodding from snappy tambourines and pounding drums, the audience did just that.

Titus Andronicus playing Maxwell's before Pier 84 (dates)

Titus Andronicus at House of Vans in 2012 (more by Ryan Muir)

Jersey rockers Titus Andronicus recently wrapped up their tour with The So So Glos (who have other dates), and though that tour didn't hit NYC, as mentioned, they're playing a free show on August 8 on Pier 84 with Ducktails as part of the River Rocks series. But you won't have to wait that long to see them in the NYC-area, because they're playing a show in their home state even sooner on July 14 at Maxwell's in Hoboken, NJ. Tickets for the Maxwell's show are on sale now.

Titus are currently over in Europe for Primavera Sound (which is streaming live) and a tour with Fucked Up. The two NYC-area dates are their only upcoming North American dates though.

All dates are listed, along with a video, below...

Mermaid Parade updates: Bowery benefit lineup expanded, 2013 king & queen chosen & more
May 23, 2013 3:48pm | Brooklyn Vegan

As mentioned, the Coney Island Mermaid Parade was in danger of not happening this year, due to new costly regulations and restrictions (and Hurricane Sandy). We posted already that Amanda Palmer is headlining a Save the Mermaid Parade benefit that's happening on Saturday (5/25) at Bowery Ballroom. Since we originally posted about it, the line-up of talent has expanded and now includes Mina Caputo (formerly Life of Agony singer Keith Caputo), Spanking Charlene, Beautiful Small Machines and a "rare guitar solo" from infamous film director Abel Ferrara (Bad Lieutenant, King of New York). Tickets are $25 and still available.

Meanwhile, the Save the Mermaid Parade Kickstarter is still kicking, currently at $83,486 of its $100,000 goal with 11 days to go.

With things looking positive, the Mermaid Parade has announced its 2013 King and Queen: Judah Friedlander (who did a Save the Parade PSA) and Carole Radziwill (princess, journalist and Real Housewife of New York). This year's parade, assuming everything works out for them, will happen June 22 at 1 PM, beginning at West 21st Street and Surf Avenue.

In other news, Weird Al Yankovic just announced that Amanda Palmer will guest on his new album. So there's something to look forward to.

Tea Party Lawmaker a Pretty Crappy Beatmaker...
May 23, 2013 3:17pm | The Daily Swarm

You may be somewhat surprised to hear that when he’s not underreporting his assets on campaign finance disclosure forms, Florida Tea Party Congressman Trey Radel is a hip hop producer. Not a very good one, mind you. Via Spin:

The latest hustle by the new wave of the Republican party, wrapped up in Tea Party insanity, is “Hey guys, we’re hip! We like hip-hop.” Right now, it’s just a series of blips on the conservative-crank radar: Marco Rubio proudly dropping the kind of rap “knowledge” you’d have to be a moron not to pick up on if you went to college in the early ’90s; Waco, Texas, Tea-Party rapper Polatik, who fashions himself a bootstrap-repping MC with good ol’ Amurrrican valyooos; or the occasional editorial from the right, or even left-leaning, “real hip-hop”-repping goofs, who will try to convince you that contemporary hip-hop’s attitude is more in line with the G.O.P.'s, anyway, you feel me? So, just grab some popcorn, sit back ,and prepare to LOLZ at the latest example of the Republican rap revolution: Florida Congressman and hip-hop beatmaker Trey Radel, who shared a bunch of his production work with Esquire. The best beat
