Hip-Hop's Latest Beef? Em's Publisher and Dr. Dre Vs. Facebook and
Ad Agency...
May 21, 2013 7:21pm | The Daily Swarm Now, here’s a weird one: Eminem’s publisher – Eight Mile Style LLC – is suing Facebook and an ad agency for using his song without permission; the ad agency is firing back, saying that the song’s production is incorrectly credited to Dr. Dre. We’re not sure how that makes sense; but let’s investigate, shall we? According to the lawsuit, Facebook ran an advertisement by Portland, Oregon ad company Wieden + Kennedy entitled
Listen to Giorgio Moroder
May 21, 2013 7:19pm | Cosequence Of Sound Believe it or not, but last night disco legend Giorgio Moroder performed his first-ever DJ set. The hour-long performance, which took place at the Williamsburg, Brooklyn club Output as part of the Red Bull Music Academy, featured fully re-arranged versions and remixes of material from his own catalog, including his recent collaboration with Daft Punk,
Listen to Giorgio Moroder
May 21, 2013 6:57pm | Fact Magazine The grandfather of modern dance music dazzles a Brooklyn audience in this 75-minute set. On Monday night, Giorgio Moroder played what was billed as his first-ever DJ set at Brooklyn’s Output, as part of Red Bull Music Academy’s New York takeover. After a vocodered intro, Moroder launches into a retrospective set of career highlights (Donna Summer’s ‘I Feel Love’, ‘Bad Girls’, ‘On the Radio’, and ‘Hot Stuff’), as well as Random Access Memories standout ‘Giorgio by Moroder’. Listen to the set over on RBMA Radio. Last week, Moroder revealed that he had taken up DJing (he even has a booking agent for it) and that he is collaborating with Avicii. For all things Moroder, check out FACT mixer Mr. Beatnick’s Essential feature.

The National played Sycamore & Public Assembly (pics); Mercury

Really small venue and great vibe. Highlight of the day. #NationalTrouble" - Alejandro Masferrer "brah I'm just so fuckin hyped to watch the NATIONAL GEOGRAPHY BEE!!!" - Nic It was a flurry of activity for Brooklyn indie stalwarts The National today. Not only did they release their great and critically-acclaimed new album, Trouble Will Find Me, but they also announced, this morning, that they'd be celebrating it with three tiny NYC club shows in one day, today. Around noon they played a free show at super-tiny Sycamore in Ditmas park. They then packed up their gear and headed to Williamsburg to play the also-very-small back room at Public Assembly (which, like the front room, will soon be closed for renovations). Pictures from Sycamore and Public Assembly, which just finished, are in this post, PA setlist included. If you got in, what time did you get there and did you wait in line? The band, who kicked off their tour the other day in Ithaca and were on Letterman last night, will play again at Mercury Lounge tonight at 10 PM. (How many of you were able to get tickets?) Clearly these guys don't have a problem with long days. As mentioned, for those who couldn't make it to any of their release celebr...
Sucks Being the New Guy: The Five Best and Worst Replacement
Singers...
May 21, 2013 6:02pm | The Daily Swarm As the saying goes, “you’ve got some big shoes to fill,” or whatever it is. Never has that been more true than in the music business. Replacement singers are a gamble; you either ascent to the heavens of popularity or sink down into irrelevancy. Sometimes a new singer can be refreshing for a stale, old rock band; sometimes it alienates fans who can’t get over the original line-up. Consequence of Sound compiled the best and worst replacement singers ever. The Best: Mother F#*$n’ Phil Collins (of Genesis)
Miguel to launch new Art Dealer Chic series in July

First announced last month, Miguel has planned another series of Art Dealer Chic EPs. The initial triptych hinted at what would come on Kaleidoscope Dream, and like that series, the new three EP series will be freely available online. “It’ll be under Art Dealer Chic. It’ll be the next three installments
Listen to Goodie Mob
May 21, 2013 5:44pm | Fact Magazine The Dungeon Family crew reveal the lead single from their first album since 2004. Described by Cee Lo as “Public Enemy on acid,” Goodie Mob’s Age Against the Machine is due out on August 27. Judging by lead single ‘Special Education’, it may be more accurately described as “Public Enemy on Skrillex.” Each member gets a chance to shine over a wobbly, glitched-out beat, with guest vocalist Janelle Monae singing the (somewhat incongruous) chorus. Listen to ‘Special Education’ below. Cee Lo recently announced plans to document Goodie Mob’s reunion in a TBS reality show.

Will The Clash's Boombox Boxset Be the Best Thing Ever?
May 21, 2013 5:17pm | The Daily Swarm That’s exactly what Mick Jones is aiming for – the new box set will be called Sound System and will contain The Clash’s first five albums, three CDs of rarities, singles, and demos, a DVD of previously unseen footage, and reproductions (as well as a new edition) of their fanzine, Armagideon Time. Oh, one more thing: bassist Paul Simonon designed it to look like an ’80s boombox. Pretty sweet. Via The Guardian:

Kvelertak @ The Studio At Webster Hall 5/17/2013
May 21, 2013 5:09pm | StereoGum Words like “party metal,” and “beer metal” come to mind when talking about Kvelertak, Norway’s black ‘n’ roll export, but a more accurate descriptor would be “sweat metal.” Or, if we we’re really going for accuracy, “fluid metal,” because it wasn’t just sweat that was soaking the stage and crowd at the Kvelertak show on Friday night. The band played the Studio At Webster Hall, a claustrophobic basement under Webster Hall Proper in New York’s East Village that always seems to be more packed than any fire marshal could ever allow. They were in town for a sold-out show in support of their well-received new album, Meir, and they brought the waterworks. Read More... |
