Boards of Canada to premiere new music on Radio 1 tonight
May 23, 2013 10:06am | Fact Magazine

Boards of Canada will premiere new music on BBC Radio 1 tonight, between 7pm-9pm UK time.

The music – which we presume will be the full version of the track that was premiered yesterday at a Tokyo junction – will be broadcast on Zane Lowe’s show. The same show broadcast one of the six codes that led up to the announcement of Tomorrow’s Harvest, the first Boards of Canada album since 2005′s The Campfire Headphase, and one of the year’s most hyped albums.

You can read up on the impressive campaign leading up to Tomorrow’s Harvest here, and read FACT writers debate its merits here.

Washed Out return w/ 'Paracosm' in August (dates, LP trailer)
May 23, 2013 10:04am | Brooklyn Vegan

Washed Out has announced details of his new album which is titled Paracosm and will be out August 13 via Sub Pop. "Paracosm," by the way, is a prolonged fantasy world that often has definite geography and language and history. While it's not a concept album, the idea of escape is central to the new LP. No full tracks have been released yet, but you can hear a bit in the official album trailer which you can watch below.

Washed out have a few shows lined up around the album's release, including the FYF Fest in Los Angeles. No dates on the East Coast yet, but all are listed below.

Stream Deafheaven Sunbather
May 23, 2013 9:56am | StereoGum

On their staggering new album Sunbather, the San Fransisco metal explorers Deafheaven fuse black metal to shoegaze, creating mind-warping 10-minute odysseys of sound that are vast enough to get lost in. It’s a hell of an album, and I don’t think Michael will mind if I tell you that it’s his favorite LP of the year thus far. (Michael’s off today because he’s on his way to the Maryland Death Fest, so his opinion on a metal album should carry some weight.) We’ve already posted the opener “Dream House” and the title track, and now you can, and should, stream the entire album at Pitchfork.

Sunbather is out 6/11 via Deathwish, Inc.

Broken Social Scene x Years
May 23, 2013 9:54am | StereoGum

Toronto’s Arts & Crafts turns ten this year and they’re doing a number of things to celebrate, including the release of X a compilation of collaborative tracks from artists throughout the label. The comp will feature tracks from Feist, Stars, Chilly Gonzalez, and this track, “Day Of The Kid” from Broken Social Scene and Years. The song is ascendent and immersive, warm and building, the kind of thing that endeared BSS to so many. While the band may be on an indefinite hiatus, one of the A&C10 will include at one-night only performance from the group at Field Trip Festival in Toronto on 6/8. There will also be performances from Ra Ra Riot, Bloc Party, and more. Check out “Day Of The Kid” below.

Listen to Deap Vally
May 23, 2013 9:51am | Cosequence Of Sound

Okay, so HBO’s True Blood may have lost me when Sookie was revealed to be half-fairy, but goddamn if the show’s soundtracks don’t continue to impress. Music Supervisor Gary Calamar has a supernatural knack for pulling together killer musicians for one bloody good collection of songs, and the fourth such release packs as much bite as ever (and I’m done).

Over 14 tracks, there are unlikely bedfellows (Iggy Pop and Best Coast’s Bethany Costentino), ungodly covers (Jenny Lewis and The Animals’ Eric Burdon’s “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood”), and rising up-and-comers (CoSigned duo Deap Vally).

On Deap Vally’s “(She’s A) Wanderer”, Julie Edwards lays down a sturdy strut of a beat while Lindsey Troy comes hard with deep stomps of reverb-dipped guitars. There’s some sweetness in the background vocals, but there’s this murky underbelly, making the cut and the show a fitting pair. Check it out below.

True Blood: Music from the HBO Original Series Volume 4 is due May 28th via ATO Records. Consult the complete tracklisting below.

True Blood: Music from the HBO Original Series Volume 4 Tracklist:
01. Eric Burdon and Jenny Lewis – “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood”
02. Iggy Pop and Bethany Costentino – “Let’s Boot and Rally”...

MOKB Video Premiere : Andy D :
May 23, 2013 9:47am | My Old Kentucky Blog

It is truly hard to believe that Andy D could be any raunchier, but he ratchets it up a notch in his new video, “Nasty.” Andy once agains brings plenty of flesh and sweat as he outlines all the “nasty” he does and is gonna do to his counterpart, Anna Vision. Oreo Jones makes an excellent workout party for the D as well. Andy D released Warcries this past January through Rad Summer Records.

Majical Cloudz & Grimes did karaoke and played Glasslands (pics, videos)

"GRIMES SHOWED UP AT MAJICAL CLOUDZ's RELEASE PARTY FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF" - Max Kerr

Montreal duo Majical Cloudz have been on a tour with Youth Lagoon, which hit the NYC-area twice earlier this month, and this week they took a couple days off from that tour to return to NYC for their own separate events. On Monday (5/20), the guys went to Manhattan record store Other Music for an in-store performance, and that night they met up with their pal Claire Boucher (aka Grimes, who featured Majical Cloudz on her song, "Nightmusic") to hit up a karaoke bar on the LES. While there, Majical Cloudz's Devon Welsh sang Limp Bizkit's "Nookie," though Claire was too shy to sing anything. Devon's bandmate (who doesn't sing in Majical Cloudz) Matt Otto did Backstreet Boys' "I Want It That Way," which apparently is becoming a thing for indie people these days.

Then, the next night (5/21) Majical Cloudz headed to Brooklyn to play a release party for their new album, Impersonator, which was released via Matador that same day. NYC producer Gobby opened that show with a full-band set, and the advertised "SPECIAL GUEST!" turned out to be none other than Grimes doing a DJ set. Pictures from the Glasslands show are in this post.

As mentioned, Majical Cloudz will be back in NYC yet again ...

FTSE Featuring Saint Saviour
May 23, 2013 9:36am | Abeano

There’s melancholy seeping out of every note in this moody collaborative track by producer FTSE, who provides the baritone vocals. It edges sadly towards a much bigger, expansive final third, with some pretty harmonies courtesy of guest Saint Saviour:

Washed Out Paracosm Details
May 23, 2013 9:34am | StereoGum

It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything from Ernest Greene, the gloopy Georgia-based synth auteur who records as Washed Out. But his 2011 debut album Within And Without was one of the best things that came out of the whole chillwave movement (even if it did hit stores after that whole thing had already faded). And later this summer, he’ll follow that album up with a new one called Paracosm. On this one, he once again worked with Within And Without producer Ben Allen, probably best-known for Animal Collective’s Merriweather Post Pavilion.

The album’s title refers to the idea of imaginary worlds that people create, and Greene may have created his own world with the album, using more than 50 instruments, as well as samples. The first single is called “It Feels All Right,” but we haven’t had a chance to hear it yet. There is, however, a two-minute album trailer with some deeply pretty music in it; check it out below.
