OK Computer was born a legend. Thom, Phil, Jonny, Ed, and Colin wrote an album that stood in the face of the classic rock that came before it and led the charge to all of the 21st century music that would come after it. It was born timeless, rooted in Brit-rock of the ’90s, but actually trying to climb on top of the cresting wave of technology. It would eventually topple all over Radiohead, and all of the mobiles quirking and chirping would inspire their 2000 album Kid A.

But in 1997, these 12 songs came unadulterated into the world, sad and lonely, angry and political, and, of course, paranoid. The guitars shimmered, Thom’s voice soared, and a Macintosh Text-to-Speak program got to sing lead vocals on “Fitter Happier”. Nothing sounded like it then, and nothing sounds like it now — 16 years later. Happy Birthday, OK Computer.

Believe it or not, but last night disco legend Giorgio Moroder performed his first-ever DJ set. The hour-long performance, which took place at the Williamsburg, Brooklyn club Output as part of the Red Bull Music Academy, featured fully re-arranged versions and remixes of material from his own catalog, including his recent collaboration with Daft Punk,

On Monday night, Giorgio Moroder played what was billed as his first-ever DJ set at Brooklyn’s Output, as part of Red Bull Music Academy’s New York takeover. After a vocodered intro, Moroder launches into a retrospective set of career highlights (Donna Summer’s ‘I Feel Love’, ‘Bad Girls’, ‘On the Radio’, and ‘Hot Stuff’), as well as Random Access Memories standout ‘Giorgio by Moroder’.

It was a flurry of activity for Brooklyn indie stalwarts The National today. Not only did they release their great and critically-acclaimed new album, Trouble Will Find Me, but they also announced, this morning, that they'd be celebrating it with three tiny NYC club shows in one day, today. Around noon they played a free show at super-tiny Sycamore in Ditmas park. They then packed up their gear and headed to Williamsburg to play the also-very-small back room at Public Assembly (which, like the front room, will soon be closed for renovations). Before his meme-worthy, high-flying performance at the Billboard Music Awards, the Grammy winner set a timetable for his next releases.

First announced last month, Miguel has planned another series of Art Dealer Chic EPs. The initial triptych hinted at what would come on Kaleidoscope Dream, and like that series, the new three EP series will be freely available online.

The Dungeon Family crew reveal the lead single from their first album since 2004.

Described by Cee Lo as “Public Enemy on acid,” Goodie Mob’s Age Against the Machine is due out on August 27. Judging by lead single ‘Special Education’, it may be more accurately described as “Public Enemy on Skrillex.” Each member gets a chance to shine over a wobbly, glitched-out beat, with guest vocalist Janelle Monae singing the (somewhat incongruous) chorus.
