Listen to Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros
Jun 18, 2013 1:32pm | Cosequence Of Sound Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros have broken off another piece from their upcoming self-titled third studio album, due out July 23rd. We’ve already heard the lead single, “Better Days”, and now the band has shared “This Life”. Accompanied by a full gospel choir, frontman Alex Ebert offers one of his most impressive vocal performances, his voice readily shifting from cool and contemplative to a shout that’s gone ragged and hoarse from a swell of emotions. Take a listen below (via Rolling Stone). Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic

Listen to Deer Tick
Jun 18, 2013 1:31pm | Cosequence Of Sound Deer Tick will soon release their fifth album, Negativity, and the follow-up to 2011′s Divine Providence. Today, they’ve unveiled the album’s first single, “The Rock”, a driving rock number that juxtaposes heartbreak with blistering horns. Take a listen below (via Rolling Stone). “‘The Rock’ is a song about being in love with an artist and subsequently having your heart broken by that artist,’ McCauley tells Rolling Stone. “The silly little metaphors in the song are ‘the rock’ which is the power to destroy your relationship, and ‘the window’ which is the relationship. I like the idea of a breakup being represented by shattering glass.” Update: Negativity will be released on September 24th via Partisan Records. Also check out Rock it Out! Blog’s recent interview with Deer Tick, in which they discuss Negativity and a host of other topics over a game of poker.
Lile Wayne, Anti-American or Just Clumsy?
Jun 18, 2013 1:30pm | The Daily Swarm Lil Wayne isn’t making any new friends, and while that may fit in with DJ Khaled’s new mantra on life, it might not bode well for Wayne’s PR team. He recently caught a lot of flack for this video which shows the rapper stepping on the old stars and stripes, but he swears it wasn’t a statement. Via Spin:

Listen to Brendan Benson
Jun 18, 2013 1:30pm | Cosequence Of Sound Brendan Benson had a fairly productive 2012. He started his own record label and publishing company, Readymade, and released his fifth solo album, What Kind of World. This year, The Raconteur has an equally hectic schedule, with plans to release a new song every month leading up to a full-length LP for Black Friday in November. For the month of June, Benson has unveiled “New Words of Wisdom”. Benson’s sometimes bluesy, sometimes folksy sensibility takes on a slightly Caribbean vibe, with the defiant acoustic guitar paired with the pseudo-tropical hum of organs for a refreshing slice of Benson’s rural musicality. Still, Benson’s vocal presence remains the song’s core, sounding equally stoic and prepared and emotionally bankrupt as he contemplates what comes after the heartache (“I’ll call you friend/But we both know/That a thousand years/Couldn’t heal these wounds”). Listen in below. For more from Benson, be sure to check out January’s “Swimming”, February’s “Oh My Love”, March’s “Purely Automatic”, April’s “Diamond”, and May’s “Swallow You Whole”. Listen: Yeah Yeah Yeah Guitarist Nick Zinner's New/Old Band
Challenge of the Future...
Jun 18, 2013 1:23pm | The Daily Swarm Meet the new project, same as the old project, at least as far as it concerns Yeah Yeah Yeah’s guitarist Nick Zinner. It turns out the electric-axe legend used to play in this band called Challenge of the Future before getting together with Karen O and the kids. Now, he’s getting the band back together in order to help out a close friend. From a press release:
Action Bronson played Bonnaroo, playing Santos w/ Harry Fraud (who
produced his new EP) after Firefly (dates, stream)
Jun 18, 2013 1:21pm | Brooklyn Vegan Action Bronson -- the Queens-based rapper/gourmet chef known for handing out weed and steak dinners during live performances -- fit the Bonnaroo vibe like an extra large glove. He passed blunts to the soundboard operator, asked the audience to toss drugs onstage (they obliged), and routinely ventured not only into the crowd but outside of the performance tent itself. With just an announcement of "the show's out here now," Bronson left most of the crowd dumbstruck as he disappeared from view, circled the stage, and finally returned to a hero's welcome. Once his hour-long, freestyle-heavy set ended (after a performance of his debauchery-heavy "Hookers at the Point"), the crowd was left chanting his name, understandably thirsty for even more. [Billboard]Queens rapper Action Bronson played Bonnaroo this past weekend, and this coming weekend (6/21), he'll play Delaware's Firefly Music Festival. After that, he'll return home to NYC to play a show at Santos Party House on June 25 with Harry Fraud, who produced Bronson's new EP, SAAAB Stories, which is out now and can be streamed via Spotify (where it premiered) below. Bronson also said in an interview with Whoo Kid (via HipHopDX) that it's going to be his last one-producer project, which he has many of, including Rare Chandeliers with The Alchemist, Blue Chips with Party Supplies, and more. Tickets for the Santos show are on sal...
Inter Arma, Anicon and Pyrrhon played the IO 'Summer Thunder' show
at Union Pool (pics)
Jun 18, 2013 1:14pm | Brooklyn Vegan photos by Caroline Harrison Inter Arma at Union Pool, 6/15/2013 Unlike Heavy Blanket the week before, the free Invisible Oranges presented Summer Thunder show on Saturday (6/15) did NOT get any noise complaints and went on as planned. This could be because the bands played indoors, but still featured raucous sets from Inter Arma (who played with Torche at 285 Kent), Anicon (who are hitting the road) and Pyrrhon (currently in the lab, working on a new LP). Regardless, the perfect weather, cheap beverages and great bands made for an excellent day at Union Pool. Many thanks to the bands, venue and all who attended! Pictures from the show are in this post and even more are up at at Invisible Oranges. Mumford and Sons Bassist Posts Surgery Update on Twitter...
Jun 18, 2013 1:05pm | The Daily Swarm It looks like the gray skies are clearing for folk-favorites Mumford and Sons who recently had to cancelt their Bonnaroo date due to a blod-clot on the surface of their bassist’s brain. Thankfully, said bassist Ted Dwayne has come out of surgery smiling and seems to be enjoying a speedy recovery. The band posted a picture on their twitter:
Perhaps the guys will be able to hit the road again soon, but for now, we hope he focuses on getting better. PS – Dwane pulls off the bald look very nicely.
Thom Yorke Paints to End Poverty...
Jun 18, 2013 12:57pm | The Daily Swarm Thom Yorke has a lot of money, but the rest of the world doesn’t, and he’s not about that. He teamed up with artist and long-time Radiohead collaborator Stanley Donwood on a painting, and now he’s auctioning that painting to raise money for charity. More fromRolling Stone:
