Drake
Jun 19, 2013 8:05am | StereoGum Drake still hasn’t announced the details of his new album Nothing Was The Same, but he’s been steadily sharing tracks like “Started From The Bottom” and “5AM In Toronto” for months now. And now we’ve got another new one. This one is called “On My Way,” and it’s a soft, fluttery, bedroom-eyed R&B song with no rapping whatsoever. It pairs Drizzy with James Fautleroy, the R&B singer-songwriter who last worked with Drake on previous leak “Girls Love Beyoncé.” Give it a listen below. Read More...
Arctic Monkeys
Jun 19, 2013 7:44am | StereoGum Arctic Monkeys apparently haven’t gotten that whole stoner-rock thing out of their system yet. “Do I Wanna Know?,” the band’s new single, rides a souped-up fuzz-rock riff, and it seems custom-designed for high-school parking-lot bong-rip sessions. The band shared the new song this morning, pairing it with a lightly psychedelic animated video that features lots of wav-forms and almost-naked cartoon women. Check it out below. Read More...
Watch Empire of the Sun perform
Jun 19, 2013 7:40am | Cosequence Of Sound Empire of the Sun continued to support their sophomore album, Ice on the Dune, with an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night. The Australian outfit performed “Alive”, a fitting anthem following one of the more exhilarating NBA Finals games in recent memory. Now, it’s doubtful Luke Steele and Nick Littlemore give two shits about San Antonio or Miami, but their glitzy decadence sure as hell trumps any traditional cheerleader. Go life! Stream below. Ice on the Dune is currently available via Astralwerks. In related news, check out our recent Rock it Out! Blog Listening Party, where our Senior Staff Writer Dan Caffrey offers his two cents on why he can’t handle Steele and Littlemore’s get up. Spoiler alert: It involves an unnatural love for Dune.

Listen: Lolo
Jun 19, 2013 7:36am | The Line Of Best Fit “I’m the baddest car in the parking lot/hottest gun that the preacher shot” proclaims rising vocalist Lolo over jagged strutting guitars and bustling snares on new single ‘Weapon For Saturday’. The Brooklynite’s unashamedly show-offish lyrics capture centre stage but that’s no bad thing when she’s lashing that tongue with such sassy, vitriolic verve. ‘Weapon For Saturday’ cuts a black ‘n white contrast with previous releases under her own name – Lauren Pritchard – but we’d take this wildchild pop side over another butter-wouldn’t-melt singer-songwriter any day.

Jun 19, 2013 6:11am | Fact Magazine As reported earlier this month, head of the Unknown to the Unknown label DJ Haus releases a new mixtape, Thug Houz Anthems Vol. 1 this week. Beginning life as a YouTube channel, Unknown To The Unknown became a powerful force for good throughout the last year, churning out 20+ releases of twisted garage and oddball bass music from the likes of DJ Narrows, DJ Q, Sinden and Sinden; we correspondingly named it one of our ten favourite labels of 2012. Their lo-res hijinks have continued into 2013: NY troublemakers Jubliee and Star Eyes released fresh material at the start of the year, the Classified label sampler dropped in February, and they recently found a home for Lake Haze

One of Detroit’s all-time greats, Craig has been making history since the early 1990s, both under his real name and with aliases like 69. With a new triple-disc mix CD due for Ministry of Sound’s Masterpiece series, we spoke to Carl about whether we’ll ever see DJs quite like Derrick May and Ron Hardy again, the first record shops he used to visit, the importance of tuning forks and more. |
