We haven't had a new album from onetime Miracle Legion and Polaris frontman Mark Mulcahy since 2005's In Pursuit of Your Happiness (one of my favorites of that year). (He unfortunately had to deal with some personal tragedies.) That is too long to be away from one of the great voices in music. That will change next month when the singer releases Dear Mark J Mulcahy I Love You via Mezzotint/Fire on June 18. Working with veteran indie rock knob-twiddler Paul Q. Kolderie, the new album finds Mulcahy in fine form, his raggedly emotive vocals warming you like a great be hug. You can stream two tracks from the album -- "She Makes The World Turn Backwards" and "Let The Fireflies Fly Away" -- below and both are terrific. Welcome back, Mark!

As mentioned, Mark will play NYC on June 27 at Mercury Lounge, shortly after his appearance at Wilco's Solid Sound Festival. Tickets for that show are still available. He's got shows throughout the summer and all tour dates, plus new LP artwork and tracklist and those song streams, are below.

Hangout Music Festival will stream a number of this weekend

Queens of the Stone Age have posted the video "My God is the Sun," the latest single from ...Like Clockwork and one of several videos/snippets released by the band. Check that out below and order yours via Matador.

Singer's nephew says choreographer's claims are untrue

Hey, another one of these! The fifth bloodily animated video for a song from the new Queens Of The Stone Age album …Like Clockwork is for the epic, churning, triumphant first single “My God Is The Sun.” In the clip, the dead stars of the videos for “I Appear Missing,” “Kalopsia,” “Keep Your Eyes Peeled,” and “If I Had A Tail” all reawaken as a gigantic winged sun rises in the sky. It all plays out like something a shop-class stoner might dream if he fell asleep watching Heavy Metal. Check it out below.

About three-quarters of the way through their first set in New York since 2011, Paramore brought things back to the start. Lead singer Hayley Williams relayed to the sold out Hammerstein Ballroom a story about the early days of the band, when the then teenage group played in empty rooms to crowds who couldn’t care less. This led into a rendition of All We Know Is Falling cut “Whoa”, which is about as simple as the title would suggest. Rather than a celebration of the past, the song was more of an awestruck ode to how far they’ve come. “This is such a simple song, and we thought we were geniuses when we wrote it,” said Williams, stifling a laugh because, for their brand of intelligent pop-punk, they may as well be labeled geniuses now. The occasion behind the show was the tour behind their latest and greatest (by some margin) album, the self-titled Paramore.

It's Black Friday at The Village Voice:

The planned layoffs at the Village Voice, which caused its brand-new editor-in-chief and deputy to quit in protest, went down this morning regardless, Gawker reports, and included legendary gossip columnist Michael Musto and veteran theater critic Michael Feingold, both of whom had already filed forthcoming pieces for the paper. Food critic Robert Sietsema was also let go. "So many people have come out to offer their love (and opportunities)," Musto told Hamilton Nolan. "My brand will be feistier than ever." Singer airlifted to hospital following motoring accident on M1

Estranged New Order co-founder and bassist Peter Hook will return stateside this fall for another dip into the nostalgia well. This time around, he’s graduating from Joy Division and, instead, performing full albums by New Order: their 1981 debut, Movement, and its followup, 1983′s Power, Corruption & Lies.

The tour kicks off on September 10th at Boston’s Paradise Rock Club and wraps later that month at Colorado’s Gothic Theatre. However, those who prefer their subscription to Ian Curtis should head to Chicago’s Riot Fest, where Hook will perform an all Joy Division set — he just couldn’t resist.
