What's going on Wednesday? (Austra, Still Corners, Low, Cold Cave, Shannon & the Clams, Hausu, Puce Mary & more)
Jun 19, 2013 9:58am | Brooklyn Vegan

Still Corners in Chicago 6/11/2013 (more by Chase Turner)

Cold Cave in Chicago, 10/25/2013 (more by Jimmy Farabi)

Browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight's shows. Here are some highlights...

Still Corners, Imperial Topaz @ Mercury Lounge
Dream pop duo Still Corners just wrapped up two sold-out NYC shows with CHVRCHES on their ongoing tour, and now they're sticking around for a headlining show at Mercury Lounge tonight. If you haven't heard their sultry second album, Strange Pleasures, you can correct that right now via Rdio or Spotify. Support at tonight's show comes from excellent like-minded local duo Imperial Topaz. Tickets are still available.

Austra @ Other Music
Austra put out their terrific sophomore album, Olympia, this week, and before their tour hits NYC tomorrow for a sold-out MHOW show with Mozart's Sister, they'll be stopping by downtown Manhattan record store Other Music for a free in-store at 8 PM. You can listen to their new album on Spotify.

Cold Cave, Boyd Rice @ Saint Vitus
A late night rendez-vous with Cold Cave sounds pretty appropriate, especially in the dark, church-themed recesses of Saint Vitus in Brooklyn. There, Wesley Eisold will present new material from his cavalcade of new 7"s released this year, and be joined by the e...

Pond
Jun 19, 2013 9:49am | StereoGum

The bassist Nick Allbrook may have recently left Tame Impala, but he still leads the similarly inclined Australian psych-rock band Pond, and they’re still about to release their fifth album Hobo Rocket. We’ve posted that album’s first single “Giant Tortoise,” as well as its video, and now they’ve followed that one up with a triumphant six-minute FM-radio blast called “Xanman,” a song that would’ve been right at home on the Dazed & Confused soundtrack. Listen to it below.

stream a track from the new Mammoth Grinder LP
Jun 19, 2013 9:45am | Brooklyn Vegan

Chris of Mammoth Grinder at Chaos in Tejas, June 2013 (more by Fred Pessaro)

Mammoth Grinder are back with a vengeance on Underworlds, due via 20 Buck Spin on July 23. The new LP is the brainchild of the busiest man in Austin, Chris Ulsh, packed with 29-minutes of crossover/d-beat/old school death metal vitriol. Its a lean yet brutal effort, and rewarding through multiple listens. Recommended.

Check out the new track "Paragon Pusher" from the LP, and the the Joe Petagno art (Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, too many Motorhead covers to count) over at Invisible Oranges.

If you missed it, you can also check out recent streams from some of Ulsh's other undertakings, including Power Trip and Hatred Surge at IO as well.

Song : Porcelain Raft :
Jun 19, 2013 9:39am | My Old Kentucky Blog

Mauro Remiddi, better known under the moniker Porcelain Raft, will be returning with a new LP, Permanent Signal, on August 20th via Secretly Canadian. This record is more organic than his excellent debut Strange Weekend with more use of tradition instrumentation and less electronic. According to Remiddi, he “wanted to record in the studio just to capture the guitars and drums properly, and to have some real input from musicians I respected and loved to hang with.” Some of the musicians appearing on the record are Yuck

Oneohtrix Point Never announces new album, R Plus Seven
Jun 19, 2013 9:38am | Cosequence Of Sound

Oneohtrix Point Never’s Daniel Lopatin will follow up 2011′s groundbreaking Replica with his Warp Records debut, R Plus Seven. Due out October 1st, the album is being billed as “a major departure from his previous work,” and one that dials down the experimentalism for a bigger concept “full of overlapping, abstract musical through-lines, puzzle-like pieces that, taken together, might allow you to glimpse an overarching tableau.”

There’s no music to fiddle about with just yet, but scroll below to see the tracklist, album artwork, and a block of dates Lopatin has scheduled.

In related news, Lopatin serves as executive soundtrack producer and music supervisor to Sofia Coppola’s latest film, The Bling Ring, out in select theaters now.

Oneohtrix Point Never signs to Warp Records, announces new album R Plus Seven
Jun 19, 2013 9:33am | Fact Magazine

Never say never.

Daniel Lopatin‘s influential strain of faded electronic music has served as a cornerstone in the last few years, so it’s hardly surprising that the prolific American has made the move to Warp Records, a label that puts him alongside Autechre, Aphex Twin and

Hear Nelly
Jun 19, 2013 9:28am | Fact Magazine

The Southern rapper gears up for the release of his seventh studio album, M.O.

Produced by Pharrell, Nelly’s ‘Get Like Me’ is a retro nod to the stripped back sound of ‘Drop It Like It’s Hot’-era Neptunes (which was nearly 10 years ago, remember). The Daft Punk collaborator lends his vocals to the nursery rhyme hook, while pop-rap superstar Nicki Minaj provides her superior guest verse services.

Set for release later this year, M.O. will feature Midas-touch producer Future alongside star guests Nelly Furtado, T.I., Trey Songz and Wiz Khalifa.

Last year Nelly was arrested and subsequently released when a police raid on his tour bus discovered a loaded gun, a full duffel bag full of marijuana and 64 ounces of heroin.

Listen to Divine Fits cover Tom Petty
Jun 19, 2013 9:15am | Cosequence Of Sound

Plenty of great moments happened at Bonnaroo last weekend (ahem, we told you about 42 of our favorites), but not all of them occurred on the festival grounds proper.

Chicago radio station WXRT caught up with Divine Fits backstage for a three-song performance that included a cover of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ “You Got Lucky”. Though the Sunday night headliners left the 1982 single off their own setlist, the Fits brought the track’s haunting synth line to Manchester, and now WXRT has brought it online.

Take a listen over at the station’s website, where you can also hear live takes of A Thing Called Divine Fits’ “Flaggin’ a Ride” and “Would That Not Be Nice”.

Listen: Maya Jane Coles
Jun 19, 2013 9:15am | The Line Of Best Fit

Maya Jane Coles is preparing her debut album Comfort for release at the end of this month, following new single ‘Everything’ with this friendlier, rave party Breach remix.

Where the original’s chest shuddering bass line submerged the track into darkness, this rework plays more to the dance crowd, with scattered vocal samples and garage influences.

It feels as though Maya Jane Coles has been somewhat overlooked recently in the congested house producer scene but a debut record should see her emerge from the crowd.

Comfort is released on 28 June via  Maya Jane Coles’ own I / Am / Me label.

Excellent Brighton night The Outer Church announce debut compilation; Ekoplekz, Pye Corner Audio and Position Normal to feature
Jun 19, 2013 9:10am | Fact Magazine

We’ve not a little affection for Brighton night The Outer Church – a reliable go-to for spooky, freaky or downright odd audiovisual showcases.

Run by writer Joseph Stannard – who, incidentally, is pretty much responsible for importing the word “hauntology” into the contemporary pop critic’s idiom – The Outer Church has brought adventurous artists to Britain’s grooviest seaside town since 2009: Raime, Demdike Stare, Hacker Farm, Ekoplekz, Pye Corner Audio and Old Apparatus have all appeared under its aegis.

The night will put its name to a sizeable new compilation, distributed by Manchester-based label Front & Follow. The record will feature knocking 30 previously unreleased tracks from The Outer Church alumni. Ekoplekz’s frazzled dub will be present and correct, and Pye Corner Audio will offer an unheard slice of dark, dense electronica. Noirish troubadour Vindicatrix, Mordant Music chief Baron Mordant, seasoned electronic agitators Position Normal and sound sleuth Robin The Fog are also on the tracklist.

The Outer Church will hit shelves on August 5. The first 300 copies will also come with a special letterpressed sleeve; a string of label showcases also planned in London, Brighton and Manchester. Head here for further information. [via Resident Advisor]

Video : Arctic Monkeys :
Jun 19, 2013 9:08am | My Old Kentucky Blog

After performing the song live, Arctic Monkeys revealed the proper studio version of the song “Do I Wanna Know?” through an animated video. The song, as of now, is a single, but word is we should expect a full-length later this year. It has really been interesting to see these guys develop over the years into band that is consistently changing and open to new directions. Listen to the song and watch the video below.
