Praise 'Yeezus,' Kanye Has Returned...
May 20, 2013 12:02pm | The Daily Swarm It’s official. Kanye West’s new album – the incredibly-titled Yeezus – is coming out June 18th, but you can pre-order it now on iTunes. You can also check out the artwork, which resembles some kind of space blanket or the bad guy from Terminator 2 if he was painted gold. Yeezy also performed some new songs on this SNL this past weekend. The performances were weird, yet wonderful. Via Pitchfork:

The Darkness played GoogaMooga (pics, video)
May 20, 2013 11:59am | Brooklyn Vegan photos by Dana (distortion) Yavin Banana split: The Darkness @ GoogaMooga 2013 While Brooklyn's music-food-beer fest Great GoogaMooga 2013 came to a soggy, earlier-than-expected end, Friday's kickoff show (5/17) couldn't have been more perfect, weather-wise. The day got off to an early start and a bang with Lowestoft, UK's finest cheeky rockers, The Darkness. An expert at crowd participation, frontman Justin Hawkins (who was hopefully wearing sunscreen with that catsuit) had the crowd showing him their thumbs as the band cranked out tunes that tread the fine line between clever and stupid. Chairlift and N.A.S.A's Sam Speigel had DJ sets on either side of the Darkness' performance that was followed by The Flaming Lips and Yeah Yeah Yeahs. The Darkness play Philly on Tuesday (5/21) before heading back to England. All dates are listed, along with more GoogaMooga pictures and video, below... Outlook Festival
May 20, 2013 11:54am | Fact Magazine Outlook has announced the line-ups for its late summer selection of boat parties on Croatia’s gorgeous coast. Croatia’s Outlook Festival is looking like it’ll be a highlight of the summer, and their boat parties always manage to be a crucial part of what makes the fest so darned unmissable. This year’s selection of line-ups have just been announced and we can safely say it’s looking as far reaching as ever. There are far too many artists announced to go into minute detail but some of our picks from the long list would have to be dubstep pioneer Hatcha, jungle don and general good sort
Daughn Gibson
May 20, 2013 11:52am | StereoGum The Pennsylvanian croaker-songwriter Daughn Gibson is about to drop sophomore album Me Moan, which features guitar work from Baroness’s John Baizley, and we got a taste of his new scorched-earth sound when we posted first single “The Sound Of Law.” And now we get to hear the album track “You Don’t Fade,” which pulls tons of tense atmosphere from a stuttering sample and Gibson’s own screwed-up Nick Cave voice. It’s a heavy song, and you can use the widget below to stream or download it. Read More...
Billboard Music Awards: Swift Rules, Bieber Defends, and Miguel
Dropkicks Fan...
May 20, 2013 11:48am | The Daily Swarm The 2013 Billboard Music Awards happened yesterday and Taylor Swift essentially ruled the night. She won eight trophies in all – including Top Artist, Top Female Artist and Top Billboard 200 artist, Top Female Artist, Top Country Artist, Top Digital Songs Artist, and the highly-coveted Artist of the Year award. Gotye still seems to be getting plenty mileage out of “Somebody That I Used To Know” because he swept four major categories and Rihanna scored big in the R&B department. Via Billboard Biz:
In addition, Justin Bieber scored a Milestone Award and addressed recent criticism in his speech.

Butter The Children signed to Downtown, playing shows; Ovlov on
tour, releasing debut LP (dates & MP3s)
May 20, 2013 11:47am | Brooklyn Vegan by Andrew Sacher DOWNLOAD: Butter The Children - "Lupus" (MP3) Butter The Children NYC pop shoegazers Butter The Children (members of Sweet Bulbs, Night Manager, and Le Rug) play local shows a lot and it's recently been announced that they've signed to Downtown Records. Last year they self released their impressive self-titled EP, and Downtown will presumably put out its followup at some point this year. You can download the EP for free at bandcamp and stream in full below. One track, "Lupus," can be downloaded above as well. The EP is a quick blast of punchy pop rock with MBV-inspired guitar wails, and if you've yet to see them at one of their many shows, they bring that same kind of power to the stage too. As usual, they have upcoming local dates, including one this Friday (5/24) at Big Snow with Big Muff, Roses, (ex-Deer Tick), and Ceramics. They also have a show scheduled at Death by Audio on June 27 with Ovlov, Suns, and Flagland. Both shows are all ages and admission for both shows is $7 at the door. Ovlov Newton, CT's Ovlov, who also play that DBA show, are set to release their debut album, Am, on July 2 via Exploding in Sound, who are becoming pretty consistent in supplying good '90s-inspired indie rock (like Speedy Ortiz, who since signed to Carpark). And lik...

Palma Violets
May 20, 2013 11:34am | StereoGum In the starkly arty black-and-white video for their charged-up anthem “Best Of Friends,” we see the members of the anarchic, party-starting British band Palma Violets rocking out before a bored and hostile crowd and committing petty acts of street crime. It’s a far cry from the drunken revelry of their “We Found Love” video, but it has its own kind of energy to it. Watch the video below. Read More...
