Watch Caveman
May 23, 2013 1:30pm | Cosequence Of Sound

From that screen-grab Caveman’s new music video doesn’t look like a total nightmare, but you know the best horror movies always start with some unsuspecting rubes.

Julia Stiles (10 Things I Hate About You), Fran Kranz (Dollhouse), and Michael Cavadias star in a short film set to Caveman’s “In The City” from the band’s self-titled sophomore album. Stiles and Kranz’s trip to the Big Apple takes a creepy turn when the couple checks into small hotel with a bellhop whose skin-crawling fetish will forever make you check behind the curtains in every hotel you ever stay in again. Watch the Lynchian video below, directed by Philip Di Fiore.

The band heads out on the second leg of their U.S. tour after a stop at Sasquatch — those dates below:

‘When A Fire Starts To Burn’ is the first proper track on Settle, the duo’s highly-anticipated debut album. As the title suggests, it’s a fiery, funky house track with a great vocal sample.

Settle is due out June 3 via PMR in the UK and Cherrytree / Interscope in the States. Disclosure recently spoke with FACT as part of our On The Record series.

Watch Portugal. The Man
May 23, 2013 1:03pm | Cosequence Of Sound

Wasilla, Alaska’s own Portugal. The Man have some wholesome, child-like fun in the video for “Atomic Man”, off their forthcoming album, Evil Friends. Director David Vincent Wolf uses some time delays and editing tricks to create trippy visuals (e.g. the band’s eyes sliding down their faces, their heads turning into amorphous blobs.) Still, it’s the mature, high-art version of when most of us learned to distort our voices by speaking into a fan, except this one breaks psyches and not tongues.

The band’s Danger Mouse-produced seventh album, Evil Friends, is due out June 4th via Atlantic Records. Also check out much more scandalous video for video for

California producer Chris Alfaro readies a new release.

Since 2003, Free The Robots has allowed Alfaro to experiment with jazz, psychedelia, and instrumental hip-hop, all in the same project. Over the past decade, he’s collaborated with The Gaslamp Killer, produced for Busdriver, and released music on LA beat scene repository Alpha Pup Records.

The prolific producer will self-release the In Other Worlds EP later this month. Stream the jazzy, sample-rich ‘Transmission’ below; the EP’s cover art follows.

Ryan Hemsworth released a free EP, playing Warm Up w/ MK, XXYYXX, Bondax, Gobby & others
May 23, 2013 12:55pm | Brooklyn Vegan

by Andrew Sacher

Canadian producer Ryan Hemsworth, whose already blessed us with some solid EPs, singles and remixes, has just put out another EP today (5/23) called Still Awake. The new EP contains 6 of his brightest sounding tracks and veers more towards chillwave than his usual forte of cloud rap. It's also got a bonus track, which is a remix one of the EP tracks, and you can download the entire thing for free. It can also be streamed in its entirety below.

Ryan Hemsworth, who was just in NYC for Downtown Fest, is part of the just-announced Warm Up at MoMA PS1 lineup, which goes down this summer. He plays on July 13 with MK (aka Detroit producer Mark Kinchen, who had two '90s hits with singer Alana Simon, "Always" and "Love Changes"), exciting young Orlando producer XXYYXX, UK duo Bondax, UNO-signed producer Gobby (who just played with Majical Cloudz), and James K. Tickets for all Warm Up shows go on sale June 5 at noon.

Ryan also plays Camp Bisco the same weekend as his Warm Up show. EP stream below...

Scout Niblett released a new LP (TLC cover included), touring w/ Dope Body who have other shows too (dates & videos)
May 23, 2013 12:43pm | Brooklyn Vegan

Scout Niblett - 'It's Up To Emma'

Grungy folk singer Scoutt Niblett released her new album, It's Up To Emma, this week via Drag City. It's her first album not produced by Steve Albini, but her ass-kicking PJ Harvey-esque songwriting is just as raw and powerful as ever. It's fitting for a record of this kind that the first single is opening track is simply titled "Gun." You can watch the video for that one, along with her no-bullshit cover of TLC's "No Scrubs" (which appears on the album!) and the tracklist below. That's the artwork above.

Scout will be supporting the new record with an international tour this year, which includes a run with Baltimore noise rockers/Drag City labelmates Dope Body. That run hits NYC at the mostly-metal Brooklyn DIY space Saint Vitus on September 13. Tickets for that show are not on sale yet, but you can check Ticketfly for updates.

Dope Body will be in NYC even sooner to play 285 Kent on June 20. No advance tickets for that show at the moment either, and the rest of the lineup is still TBA. This past March, they released the Saturday EP via Drag City, and you can check out the video for its punishing opening track, "Leather Head," below.

All dates for both bands are listed, along with those videos, below...

This Poorly Drawn Chief Keef Tattoo is Definitely Some Shit We Don't Like...
May 23, 2013 12:36pm | The Daily Swarm

Via Complex:

What is there to say about this, really? Life is a mystery. And never more so than on Chief Keef’s Instagram, where he revealed a photo of a girl’s back tattooed with a rough approximation of his visage, his government name, and the adornment of bubbly hearts and the word “N’Joi.” With the “i” dotted with a heart, naturally.

[video] Washed Out announces new album Paracosm
May 23, 2013 12:33pm | Chart Attack

Two years after the release of Within and Without, Washed Out will release his new album Paracosm on August 13th, once again forcing himself to endure more stupid questions from music journalists about chillwave. Below is the album trailer, a sequence of kaleidoscopic nature shots scored by a bit of new music that sounds like how we were hoping the new Avalanches record would.

Barbarossa touring with, without & in Junip (who he covered)
May 23, 2013 12:26pm | Brooklyn Vegan

by Bill Pearis

UK resident James Mathé will soon be pulling double duty, both as a touring member of Jose Gonzalez's band Junip (who are starting a North American trek next week) and as an opener too, with his own project, Barbarossa. Having just signed to Memphis Industries, Mathé will release his second album as Barbarossa, Bloodlines, on August 5.

Where his first album, Chemical Campfires, was lovely acoustic folk, Mathé has reinvented Barbarossa for the new album which is much more electronic. "I loved the acoustic scene, but knew it was not all I was about, so I dug out all my old casiotone keyboards, drum machines and analogue synths and just started writing." If you like the more soulful, reflective side of Hot Chip, you should definitely check him out. You can watch the video for the album's first single, "The Load," below.

In celebration of the Junip tour -- which hits NYC on June 13 for a sold-out show at Highline Ballroom with Quadron -- Barbarossa has covered Junip's "Line of Fire" which definitely takes the song in a more low-key direction, but no less lovely. We've got the premiere of that and you can stream it below.

If you didn't get tickets to the Highline show but are still interested in catching Barbarossa, he'll return to NYC for shows at Mercury Lounge on June 20 with <...
