Check Out The Official Daft Punk Racecar
May 23, 2013 10:51am | StereoGum Daft Punk’s masterful new album Random Access Memories takes its time in getting anywhere, but this hasn’t stopped the French duo from getting their own formula one racecar. Columbia, the duo’s label, is a partner with Team Lotus F1, the British racing team, and a new YouTube video shows the robots walking toward a formula one car that appears to bear their logo. Hard to say from all this, but it appears that the Daft Punk racecar is racing in the Grand Prix De Monaco, an annual race that starts today. Watch the short and cryptic video below. Read More...
Watch the first short film by Scottish artist Konx-om-Pax, Under
The Bridge
May 23, 2013 10:50am | Fact Magazine Under The Bridge" title="Watch the first short film by Scottish artist Konx-om-Pax, Under The Bridge" width="685" height="371" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-155817" /> The Glaswegian multimedia artist shares his first short film. Konx-om-Pax is the alias of Tom Scholefield, an artist who has released music on Planet Mu (last year’s Regional Surrealism) and has helped define the visual aesthetic of Hyperdub, Brainfeeder and LuckyMe with his design work. Scholefield wore all the hats in the creation of Under The Bridge, a short film that he directed, animated, edited, and sound designed. Two young men encounter (and flee) an incandescent construct of skulls, reminiscent of the neon-coated, deep space creature that he animated for Lone’s Galaxy Garden trailer. Watch the short film below. Last year, FACT spoke with Scholefield about life on the margins, getting bottled and the enduring power of Boards Of Canada (a prescient conversation, on that last note).
Quadron (mem. of Rhye) releasing new LP (stream a track w/ Kendrick
Lamar), opening for Junip and Lianne La Havas
May 23, 2013 10:50am | Brooklyn Vegan by Andrew Sacher DOWNLOAD: Black Hippy - "U.O.E.N.O" Remix (MP3) When we first realized Rhye wasn't as mysterious as we thought, it was brought into the public consciousness that one half of the duo was Mike Milosh (better known as just Milosh) and Robin Hannibal, who is also one half of the duo Quadron with Coco O. Quadron is set to release a new album, Avalanche, on June 4 via Vested in Culture/Epic, and in very exciting news, the first single, "Better Off," features a verse from Kendrick Lamar. Pitchfork mentions that Robin and Coco were also in a group called Boom Clap Bachelors, whose song "Tiden Flyver" is prominently sampled in Kendrick's "Bitch, Don't Kill My Vibe." Check out "Better Off" below, along with the album tracklist. That's the artwork above. Quadron also have some tour dates coming up around the time of the album's release. They'll be a support act for some of the dates on Jose Gonzalez's group Junip's previously discussed tour, including the NYC date happening on June 13 at Highline Ballroom. Barbarossa is on that show too, which is sold out. Quadron will also return to NYC for a free, all ages show opening for UK singer Lianne La Havas at Central Park Summerstage on July 27. DJ Center will be on the boards that night too. As discussed, Kendrick Lamar will also be in the NYC-area for Summer Jam,...

May 23, 2013 10:46am | Cosequence Of Sound In the 1990 Nascar blockbuster Days of Thunder, Nicole Kidman asks Tom Cruise what he likes about racing, to which he replies: “Speed. To be able to control it. To know that I can control something that’s out of control.” Not to put words in their mouths (or computers?), but that might be the same answer Daft Punk would give, especially if they had to explain why they’re promoting a Formula 1 racecar that’s currently racing in the Grand Prix de Monaco. What? As Pitchfork points out, Columbia Records, who issued Daft Punk’s latest album, Random Access Memories, is a partner with Lotus F1, which explains the aforementioned racecar. However, they didn’t just slap on the group’s logo and send out the car flying (see above); in fact, the French duo appear in a 28-second clip labeled, “Daft Punk Comercial LOTUS f1 TEAM (Extended No Official)”. Catch the clip below and follow the action on Lotus F1′s Twitter page. In related news, a Japanese bonus track off Random Access Memories called “Horizon” surfaced earlier this week, and so did a mysterious alternate version that Managing Editor Jeremy Larson found. And, yeah, son of a bitch, it looks like we’ll have to update their Collaborative History – again.
Detroit legend Marcellus Pittman to play Make Me loft party in
London
May 23, 2013 10:38am | Fact Magazine A slice of Detroit arrives in London on Saturday May 25. Well this is just a bit exciting, London’s Make Me have scored a rare appearance from Detroit house legend Marcellus Pittman. Known for his slew of releases on Theo Parrish‘s Sound Signature and Omar-S‘s FXHE, Pittman is also a member of the spine-chillingly important 3 Chairs alongside Parrish, Moodyman, and The Rotating Assembly’s Rick Wilhite. Support will be coming from Make Me residents Rubin, Rupe and Nic Baird. Needless to say, this night is going to be more than essential, and tickets are strictly limited so it’s worth booking earlier rather than later. For more information and tickets head here.

May 23, 2013 10:26am | StereoGum “U.O.E.N.O.,” the recent single from the Atlanta rapper Rocko, earned itself a ton of unwanted notoriety in recent months: It’s the song where Rick Ross bragged about date rape. So consider this a reclamation. All four members of L.A.’s furiously exciting Black Hippy supergroup — Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, and Jay Rock — have teamed up for a spazzed-out, fired-up remix of the track. Gucci Mane embraces Bandcamp for new album Trap House III; stream
it now
May 23, 2013 10:17am | Fact Magazine Trap back. Bandcamp might have a reputation as something of an indie outpost, but it seems like even slightly crazed Atlanta rappers see the business model as being workable. Gucci Mane‘s latest album Trap House III (billed as Gucci’s final ‘trap’ record) was just released via the digital distribution network, and while the rapper is no stranger to putting music online (we’ve had countless mixtapes this year already) it’s the first time a ‘proper’ album of his has made its debut online. Weirdly the album still isn’t available on iTunes, and Gucci himself Tweeted that “It must be a conspiracy”. We’re not sure about that, when you push your album forward a couple months, we’d assume that this stuff can happen pretty easily. You can hear the album below and purchase it from Bandcamp. Disclosure working w/ Nile Rodgers (who's also working with...
Avicii and David Guetta?), remixed by Baauer (listen)
May 23, 2013 10:12am | Brooklyn Vegan by Andrew Sacher Disclosure at MHOW in March (more by Jason
Bergman) Fresh off of working on the killer new Daft Punk album, disco legend/Chic founder Nile Rodgers revealed at the International Music Summit that they aren't the only modern electronic musicians that he's working with. FACT reports that he'll be working with hot new UK garage duo Disclosure, in addition to... big EDM names Avicii (who's also working with another RAM collaborator/disco legend Giorgio Moroder) and David Guetta. Nile also mentioned collaborations with Chase & Status and Etienne Daho. As mentioned, Disclosure are set to release their much-anticipated debut album, Settle, on June 3 via PMR. Its most recently released single, "You & Me" (which features vocals from Eliza Doolittle), was just given remix treatment by Baauer, who is no stranger to Disclosure's material. You can stream that remix below along with the video for the original track. Settle is now available for pre-order on iTunes for the reduced price of $6.99. As mentioned, Disclosure will be bringing their tour to NYC for a co-headlining Summerstage show in August with another exciting new dance duo TNGHT and support from Julio Bashmore. Tickets for that show are still available. Remix stream and music video below... Continue reading "... |
