New app Soundhalo attempts to deter fans from bootlegging shows
May 17, 2013 9:42am | Fact Magazine Professionally recorded and mastered live material to be delivered directly to your phone. If you’ve been to a live show in the last few years you’ll be familiar with the problem, the humble cellphone has now replaced the lighter as the ‘in the air’ device of choice. It’s not simply used as illumination however, anyone who’s browsed these pages looking for advance listens of Kanye West (and plenty of others) will be used to hearing the crunchy distorted sound that results from a very loud source being recorded on a device that simply isn’t geared up for that kind of use. Sidelining the fact that the practice is illegal (imagine if two-thirds of the audience had been holding up tape recorders back in the 80s? You had to be discreet back then) and annoying for fans just trying to enjoy the show, it’s not the best look for the bands being recorded who would rather people were listening to their tracks at their properly-mastered best. This is where Soundhalo comes in, and the app was debuted this week at an Alt-J performance at London’s Brixton Academy. The Android-only beta version is now downloadable from the Soundhalo site, and promises to allow users to “watch, download and share artist endorsed live music as it happens.”. Now that might sound a little vague, but the idea is that a production crew at the venue itself will combine soundboard rec...

May 17, 2013 9:38am | The Daily Swarm We’re not sure why this gives us such schadenfreude, but it totally does. According to TorrentFreak (via Boing Boing), the company in charge of overseeing the recent (completely ineffectual) “Six Strikes” law isn’t legally able to conduct business in the United States. The company filled out paper work all crappy and didn’t pay proper fees. Dummies!

Listen to unreleased Wu-Tang Clan track
May 17, 2013 9:30am | Cosequence Of Sound The Wu-Tang Clan reunion is going strong, with a 20th anniversary album called A Better Tomorrow planned for this year, and a hologram of Ol’ Dirty Bastard joining the Clan on stage for their performances at Rock the Bells. It’s been a while since we’ve heard new material under the Wu-Tang banner, but you can now check an unreleased track titled “Execution in Autumn”. Taken from “the personal vaults of the RZA,” the
track features verses from Inspectah Deck, Raekwon, RZA and
U-God in a tag-team, old school feel that brings back all
kinds of memories of their first album 36
Chambers. “Execution in Autumn” is also being released on a physical 7″ (b/w the instrumental) on a pay what you can basis until May 31st. Throw down whatever you think is fair for some Wu-Tang vinyl right here.

Daft Punk premiered their new album in Wee Waa, Australia today
May 17, 2013 9:11am | Cosequence Of Sound Earlier today, Wee Waa, Australia celebrated the release of Daft Punk’s first album in eight years, Random Access Memories. The town of 2,000 was chosen as the location of the album’s official launch party, taking place as part of the 79th Annual Wee Waa Show alongside activities such as sawing contests and canine high jumping. All week leading up to the festival, residents wore Daft Punk masks around town and documented their anticipation with a series of YouTube videos. The Robots themselves did not attend today’s festivities, but residents were treated to an impressive setup that included a giant disco ball and an LED dance floor that displayed RAM’s album cover and the Daft Punk logo when lit up. And there’s a limited edition version of Random Access Memories just for them (via @McCabeRadar) The video below offers an aerial look at the festival grounds. And here’s brief footage of the party itself. An Instagram of the party (via @Boudist) Another Instagram of the party (via @GVTone) Australia’s Herald Sun has a few additional tidbits, including the sighting of a “mysterious UFO which flew above the showgrounds in the afternoon.” Though, they didn’t feel the need to elaborate any further, because maybe that’s just a regular thing in Wee Waa, Australia.
